JDM rear install, license plate modifying, totally lost
I read that you need to modify it (the license plate bracket) yet I really dont understand what the **** was done in any of the pictures, I ALSO read that people scratched their bumpers a lot trying to do it while it was mounted/retainer was already in JDM rear. So I am trying to do it without and since its not on, I really have no idea what im modifying as I don't know whats wrong.
Can someone plz explain what I need to do, and why I am taking off the light/bracket and then re-riveting, esp when I dont think the rivets for that are supplied.
Right now I have the retainer by itself, not in either bumper.
P.S.
AIM might be easier. AIM = negativory
I posted the same thing on socalevo so if your own both, sorry. just want to get a response as I need the car in the morning.

Not sure what you mean? I took out all the rivets holding the retainer to the bumper yes, but the JDM rear supplies all of those rivets. What i am talking about is on the retainer alone there is 2 rivets holding the actual license plate holder to the retainer, in the guide I am following (seems to be the best one) it tells you to drill these rivets also, take off the license plate holder, and re-rivet it at a desired amount, while bending parts of the bracket aswell. The pictures are kinda confusing to get what is going on.

no crash beam for now. i will go get mine modified then put it on later. Once you've got rivets and everything done. it will be a quick snap to take off and put the beam on.

You need to drill out the rivits that hold the plate holder.
Set the plate holder a side....we will come back to it.
The other piece needs to have the portion where you just drilled out flattened.
The two tangs that held the plate holder is what I am talking about.
They look like an "S" shape and need to be more of an "L".
The plate holder needs to be reinstalled on the other portion about an inch higher than where it was. Just line it up, marke the piece and drill them.
Then reinstall the plate holder with new rivits.
I found that you can bend the longest portion of the tangs back behind themselves. This will keep them from hitting the bumper.
Hope this helps.

As for your question about drilling out the rivits on your stock bumper....
They need to come out because the metal bracket is what supports the bumper to the car. Just drill out the rivits all of the way around the bumper. There are also a few screws that need to come out. Once they and the rivits are out the metal bracket will come out. The center section is what you need to modify as I stated above.
Once it is all modified then you install the entire metal bracke as one piece on the JDM bumper. You will need to get some new rivits, of course, to install the bracket to the bumper.
This is the only way to do it. The rivits are not included because rivits are common bench stock items in most shops.
