Interesting specs on the M3, and it makes me even happier with my car. I was able to overtake the modified M3s (cat-back, intake, few other bolt-ons for them) at speeds over 100mph, and at no point were they able to leave me. The braking deeper thing was a definite, as I had to watch close otherwise I would suddenly be right on their bumper as I waited for my brake point. Then coming out of a tight corner I was able to drive by them, as boost came on it was a marked increase in passing speed.

I spoke with a new M3 owner, and he did say that it was very hard to make more power out of the M3, and even dumping $2-3K more into the car would only yield 10-15hp increase. He was definitely impressed with my car, and with the performance.

Did you ever drive the car on the track stock? I see that you have the bars on it and was wondering if it helped much..

I autocrossed it stock, on the stock tires I won one event in AS and 3 in ESP. The Cusco rear bar helped with understeer, though it does lift a wheel, then again it runs faster now.

Actually a stiff rear bar for road racing isn't as good an idea... oversteer is nasty at track speeds. I set the bar to the middle position for open track to soften it a bit.

That is what I was thinking, people around here change a bunch of stuff and have no clue what it is like stock. My car is 100% stock and have had no problems and does well at the track. What pads did you use?

Still stock pads right now. Never noticed any fade, though I do need to resurface now as I have a slight judder under braking due to deposits on the rotor from autocrossing and the open track event.

I had bought a set of Hawk pads for the car from Tirerack, but they were doing a WAG on the fitment based on the Brembo caliper model... the pads were too thick for the Evo's rotors and dragged badly. So I will use up the stock pads and likely go to Carbotech and some slotted rotors.

yeah, but the e55 isn't exactly an aerodynamic champ either

But to the guy thats been blown away by e55's over 100mph, the new ones are significantly faster.

Sigh.

I have the carbotech XP's on my car for TRACK ONLY, on the street they work GREAT but make A LOT OF NOISE. on the track I was BEATING the car drifing at 70mph and getting on the breaks as hard as I could for 2 days. 0 problems with pads, or rotors. Put the stock pads back on and it works great! I did get VERY little fade but I was going from 105-110 to 40-30 about 6 times a lap for 8 30min sessions. Get the XP's they rock. you do have to change them for the street but the pads are a piece of cake to do.

In this case, i would have to say you beat the driver, not the car.... any acceleration from about 60mph and up = advantage M3. I have driven past E46 M3's and new M5's at the track in a stock S2000....driver, not car.....Now that I think about it, i drove past a 996 911 who was in the advanced group, but clearly not driving 10/10's.

My kid's "03" clk55 AMC kicks my tail. At about 90 he pulls away slow, by 120 he is gone. The Benz cost three times what my car did so I am not surprised nor dissapointed. FWIW the M5 beats his Merc. He has had my car over 150 and says it feels like a bucket of bolts. I have had it to 140 and it feels pretty tight to me, I could still feel the acceleration but is was sluggish.

the max speed rating on the evo says 157 right , well last weeked on a freeway an ls1 wanted to play so he guns and i floor it he was pulling till i hit full boost 5th gear and i started to pull him right back past him at 145, but i kept on it to put him in his place hit hit almost 160 right below it, still had a few 100's of rpm left slowed down he caught up and was very impressed and i still had 4 people in my car, just another v-8 down the drain

I could do 0-150 in 10 sec. Oh wait that's khm. Going that fast is dangerous.....Doing 150mph will get you one mile in 24sec. That's 6sec. 1/4 mile. If you lose control, it would take about 1/2 mile before your car comes to a rest.

that had to take a lifetime to get to 160mph....... the LS1 obviously had something wrong with it....

My "bolt on only" modified Mustang Cobra can get from 0-100 in about 26-27 seconds (hand timed, but who cares if I am off by 1 second)........ at that point the evo is lucky to be doing 130mph.......

Unless you have some great modifications, it will take a stock evo something like 45 seconds to get to 150mph..... there are lots and lots of cars that can beat that.....

of course the 0-150 is not the evo's forte at all!!!
