Insurance??
Alright so it's like this. I've never used my insurance for anything besides having something to pay every 6 months, with that being said I'm a bit confused on what exactly a said insurance will cover.
I was on my way home from school after it had snow'd alot here in southwestern PA at this time the snow was melted...just ash and such on the roads. Anyways my problem arises on the road my house is one. There's a coal mine which uses this road, so there's tri-axles on it 24-7. Well when it snow'd they decided it'd be best to drop ash instead of anything else. Well as I was creeping up the road to avoid chips and such I was passed by some vehicles and lets just say I now have chipped paint and a chipped windshield. Will insurance cover any of this?
I really don't see it being another "drivers" fault here. In this case I believe the fault is in the township / state for improper road maintenence. The road's already not properly taken care of because it has a 10ton weight limit and they run tri-axles on it but the mine has a bond on the road, so they I guess can do whatever they please.
I need help. What should I do. Is it possible that fault lies in the township / state, the mine or just my dumbass and I'll have to go out of pocket?
...I'll get pics up whenever I can.

If you have full glass coverage on your insurance plan and the windshield is chipped they should take care of that for no cost. I don't know about the chips in the paint though... Maybe someone else knows

as far as the chips goes, if you have comprehensive insurance, i THINK that should cover the hood as long as you're willing to pay the deductible.
Just know that an insurance company will only accept your claims a few times before dropping you.

You should be covered but your going to have to shell out $ for your deductible. So depending on what you have that set to, you may just be better off paying for a new windshield. I doubt they will cover something like little rock chips in your paint, that just comes along with DDing any whip.

Yeah I wasn't sure. I'm going to have to get it repainted to look half decent but I guess that's just going to be something that comes down to my fault. It just pisses me off that I baby this thing everywhere and try to keep it in good condition with the horrible roads and again...they strike because someone thinks it's "ok" to lay 1/2" of ash on the road. Well thanks for the input. Looks like I'm going to have to fork it out on this one for the paint at least.

as long as u have full coverage (not just "1sided" liability), then your insurance will cover Anything and Everything regardless of fault or any other circumstance (unless its fraud and they deny payment based on that).... although they might raise your rates at some later point.
now, having said that, there are many instances when its simply not worth invoking your insurance. such as fixing a few minor paint chips. your deductible is at least 500, if not 1000, and if this slight paint touch-up will run you several hundred (or less), your insurance will simply not cover it just based on that.
BUT as far as glass, you might get away with it w/o any problems at all. in NY at least, most policies have glass claim provisions. it doesnt fall under the "Deductible clause", so they will pay for your glass (full replacement) regardless of anything, AND, will not raise your rates one bit.
just make sure u call it "a glass claim" and not an accident or incident or anything like that.... but I must say I dont know about your State, nor your particular policy.
RULE OF THUMB: call your insurance, and ask. you wont be penalized in any way by asking

as an insurance professional, depending on your company, for example, geico - they will do anything to try and not pay. But lets say Travelers or Chubb, they won't ask as many questions and will usually fork out for you. but like the others have said, depending on your actual coverage, you would need glass included, and OTC(other than collision/comprehensive) for the paint, and don't forget the deductible IMO i'd wait in case someone so happens to run into you, then make them pay for it
