The magazines(all of them) say the gtr will be an infiniti if we get it. It is supposed to be a world market car and being that the G35 is called the skyline overseas, our version will be based on the GTR. It will be a 2+2 and will be luxury orinetated like the g35 coupe. That does not mean it will be all bloated with extra crap but it will be heavier with the awd system. On a side not, it may be cheaper because it is now possible to get a g35 sedan with the latest ATTESSA(whatever) awd system, and component sharing will drop prices. The z06 and gtr are in differnt categories as far as i'm concearned. The gtr will be designed to be more plush but be a very capable car, and will appeal to more people. Kind of like a Carrera. My money would go to the GTR. The upgrade potential will be GIGANTIC! I hope it does sell well because it will fuel other companies to make better stuff, but i am more concerned with getting the car at all. Only time will tell!
On the note of the next evo, i have read that the JDM car and the US car will evolve in different directions. To me that means more displacement. The JDM is very close to the WRC so the cars retain a similar power plant to keep close ties for the buying public. The US market is not such. That is why the us Sti has the 2.5 and the rest of the world still has the 2.0. if you read all the magazines, the lack of low end power is the only gripe for the testers, but the evo usually comes out on top because of it's incredible handling. Now, put a little bit larger motor in there (a la 4g64) and please everybody. I see that as the future motor hands down. I imagine the EJ25 will trickle down into the WRX(already in the forester turbo and baja turbo) so it will be very logical for mitsu. Those are my psychic predictions, i guess time will tell.

That's a plus about the 4g64. It is the same casting as the 4g63, just 6mm taller. No discerable weight change. If they put a small 6 under the hood then maybe, but i dout they will venture too far away from the 4g63, due to the poplarity of the turbo 4 fad at the moment. One never knows though. Maybe they wil ruin the car.

It's interesting how the same manufacturer under a different name get such a different stigma and more importantly to anyone who actually cares about money, better resale value. Sucvh as Acura/Honda - Infiniti/Nissan - Lexus/Toyota. I've always wondered why Mitsu doesn't have an upscale branch. Thye have such a low resale value, it would only help them to have some fluffier, more expensive cars with higher customer service standards. The Evo as we enjoy it could stay a pure enthusiast car geared toward drivers and fluffier V6 versions with heated headrests and TV screens in the cup holders could be marketed in the upscale Mitsu divison. Very similar to the way the 350z - G35 is. It's good for purchasers of the upcoming skyline to be an infiniti since it will be seen as a better car just becuase up the brand it's stuck under and for it's resale value.
Then again I think these japanese manufacturers have cuased their own problem. BMW has models from the 3 to the 7 series with M models and no need to have different marks/brands ( excluded tuned and M versions) as well as Chevrolet, Ford, Mercedes. Though they all have thier tuner versions like SVT and AMG.
Anyways.. Bring on the bigger displacement Evo, but don't town down the suspension "roughness" in any way. and stick in a Sequentiual Manual Transmission!! Puuhhllleeeeeezzzzeeee! It's getting tough holding out and waiting and if the new model doesn't bring the goods to the table I may have to add other new 2004 models into the ring of possible car choices again...
