Gurney Flap IX

Likely cost. The 9 wing didn't have carbon panels on the inside of the end plates either.

...as simple as weight saving. You can actually disassemble the Evo IX wing (the inside covers are velcro'd on which allows you to get to the screws holding the wing together) and you could fill the wing with an expanding builders foam if its a concern.I have a Gurney flap on mine and I've had it up to 210kph on trackdays with no issues. I wouldn't be trying a max speed run with it on though! There is enough evidence to suggest the wing can't take the extra load at high speed.

I have hit 160mph+ with the gurney flap on my 9 wing and it did not snap on me. Apparently, I was lucky. My car came with an evo 8 wing somehow, but it was yellowing so badly that the dealership gave me a new IX wing under warranty 10 years ago. Now i'll need to look around for another.

the nice thing about pretty much all the other colors on the 9 is they were made in the 8 every year. i guess electric blue is the only other car that has this problem.

i'd say so. also, wind can make a huge difference in how much force the wing is seeing. my old one (TB evo 9) bent on an extremely windy day on the highway. i think my case was unusual but it'll obviously be exacerbated in track day situations

I agree as well. My wing failure had a lot to do w/the high winds at the track, that day, coupled with Fontana speeds
