bricke, leasing is great if you don't mind:

1) mileage restrictions
2) not owning the car
3) don't live in NY
4) having to fix everything before you turn the car back in
5) possibly having to put brand new tires on the car because you waited too long before lease turn-in
6) getting a new car every few years (3 year leases are the most popular of course)
7) not being able to mod the car without removing them prior to lease turn-in

All that aside, I would still probably do it again if it were for the right vehicle. The basically nill down payment + low *** monthly is certainly attractive.

For everyone that states that this car might not be in big demand after 4 years, I think that you might be incorrect.... Take the Toyota Supra for example (and this car is not one for the "masses")... Car that car for the masses actually decrease in value faster because they are so common...

They are still very much in demand and there prices have not dropped that much or time, right? I think that the WRX is a different store especially since they released the STI version... People locked at the WRX as just another turbo impreza but the STI is a CRAZY machine... I have a feeling the Evo's price will stay pretty hig considering limited production and the niche market that wants them.... This could be a collector car like a Datsun....

the lower residual just means you won't get as low a payment on the lease, but on the flip side, it means you have the option to buy the car at the end of the lease for a very low amount, so you can actually get lower payments all around over a longer duration. It depends on what your goals are. If you just want to get into the car at the expensive of higher cost over the long run, it's an option.

If you just want a toy and have $30,000 laying around, you can buy it, use it however you want and then sell it, or hold on to it, or be buried in it.

For a lease you are going to walk away from, like most leases, you'll want to haggle that the residual needs to be raised for a lower monthly lease payment.

I thought the standard residual procedure was half of MSRP after 4 years. I could be wrong. My wife's lease was figured that way. So the EVO should be worth $15000 after 4 years. That's sounds more reasonable, but I'd figured it'd sell for more than that.

guys no offense to the evo, but its no supra turbo or rx-7 turbo, those are cars where the blue book values are adjusted to almost 80% of the original value, the evo may be limited edition but i dont think it is rare enough to warrent a high residual, also it is marketed as a race car, race cars get beat on, although many will argue that, but the amount that do get beat on will pull down the residual on the car...

No one knew the RX7 and Supra would get the axe like they did either though. You can bet if Mitsu pulled the plug on the EVO after 3 years, like Mazda did with my RX7, it would be worth more than book.

Guys I think it's a bit too early to speculate about residuals. Lower residuals as previously mentioned make for a higher monthly payment and more interest earned by the financing company, so that could be a reason for later adjustment as the demand for NEW evos dies down.
