Looks all stock to me. The rear section is for sure. Downpipe too.

I'm not sure why the wiring for the rear o2 has a bunch of tape on it though, not factory like that.

Yeah, my cousin and I wondered the same thing. He had it up on a lift while he checked it out for me. I'll take a pick of the tip later but thanks for all the looks and confirmations.

thats what it looks like. the IX's sensor was in the middle of the cat and the VIII's had it after the cat if i remember correctly. i wonder if they used a VIII cat with the catback of a IX. i dont see the o2 bung on the catback or cat itself.

This is what was found per the tech.

Said the o2 in question is an aftermarket Denso and needs replacement. Also said Cat was bad. It seemed to have quite a bit of rust on it. While checking this out they noticed some of the bolts on the exhaust were mismatched which clued them in that the stock exhaust was reinstalled. Their total for the cat and the 02 sensor is $1689.00 (includes parts and labor). Crazy price. If Denso is no good (guy said their known for being problematic, what's another option for o2; Bosch? I'll check Mitsuparts.net too.

Said the small leak I mentioned was coming from the seal between the yoke of the drive shaft and transfer case. This is pending being covered under warranty.

Found the boost gauge was not working because it was re-routed to the dash above the steering wheel. I did not notice that there were 2 small holes there where a aftermarket boost gauge was probably installed. They said they would re-route to the stock location and that should fix the stock gauge.

I don't think I can really fight about the cat being as it looks like it was messed with; as well as the first o2 not being stock. I'm fine with paying for a part that may have failed due to being tampered with. I'm not fine with paying $700 + for the cat and $500 + for the o2 sensor.

Is the stock cat pretty much a bolt off affair. Just want to make it's not welded onto anything.

Works - I see the Works exhausts requires being modified to fit the ix. ('06 EVO IX requires additional bung to be added or an EVO VIII style Intermediate Pipe with a pre-existing bung for the rear O2 sensor.).

AMS - Looks like the AMS High Flow Cat will only bolt up to an AMS Cat-Back and Downpipe.

APS - How is the APS Catalytic Converter? Will it fit a ix with no mods on a stock exhaust? Eventually I'll probably get a catback but I want to wait until my warranty is up.

Perrin - Perrin sounds good (can be used with the stock downpipe and cat-back exhaust, or with most aftermarket systems.); except I found this note about it (EPA Compliant in all states that do NOT require CARB Exemption).

Catco - Catco states "This aftermarket cat will also work with the Lancer EVO 9, but one must relocate the O2 sensor on the stock cat (extra bung usually is available on aftermarket EVO exhaust systems)" regarding their 3" cat.

Ultimate Racing - Ultimate racing looks to be the winner (Direct Bolt-On Replacement for Catalytic Converter). Will the 3" work fine as they have a 2.5" option.

Did I miss any other available options?

Should I just look for a used oem Cat until I decide to get an exhaust? I'll probably try the changing the cat first and then the o2 just to confirm. I thought since I have a defective cat this is a good time to upgrade. I'd prefer one that flow better than stock, requires no modifications, and actually works as a cat (cleans and passes smog). Oh yeah, probably also something that will work with an aftermarket exhaust since I plan for one in the future.

Thanks for any help.
