The manual is wrong about alot of things and it all comes down to the style of driving. 5000 miles is to much for turbo car

He is right... the style of driving you most commonly do does affect how often you should change your oil.

Don't think it has to do with the turbos stictly. My bi-turbo Audi has 10K intervals (covered by Audi during the warranty) and a long powertrain warranty. However, I will probably be changing the oil every 3,500 miles or so on the Evo since I will be driving it harder.

10K intervals!!! That's crazy! It would be nice to not have to worry about oil changes but once a year.

Here Here I used Mobil 1 10W30 Fully Synthetic since 1997 in my Eclipse & the stuff is great. It looks too new to even take out of the vehicle on the severe duty cycle, so I would just stick to what the manual says. Every 5K miles.

Also, I understand why people want to change their oil soon after the break-in (because of how most oils are, metal chunks, etc.) but honestly, Mobil 1 is so good I doubt there is any reason to do so. However, this is just my opinion, and I would love to see a magnetic drain plug or something after the first 5K miles to test my theory. Anyone work at an oil analysis lab?

My Evo has about 2500 miles on it so I guess I should ge the oil changed then hugh? I was going to do it at 3000 anyway and after reading all these posts I am still not sure about what interval to use. I am planning on changing it every 3000-4000.

I just had my first oil change at 2600 miles. Went back to the dealer. (I have no garage and it was way too cold outside to do it meself.... )

Thereafter I will change it again at 6000, then 10000; thereafter every 5000 miles.

Unless I race it, then I'll change it more frequently - which I might

After noticing I could smell fuel in the oil I changed it to natural oil at about 150 miles. I got almost 700 miles now and can’t smell nearly as much so I’ll probably change it again with natural oil at 1000 mile mark. After another 1000 if I can’t smell fuel in the oil I’ll go back to Mobile1 and change it every 3500 to 4000 miles.

I don’t care what Mitsubishi says, you can’t properly break in an engine on synthetic oil. Period.

To whoever said to use BG Syncro in the tranny; I tried that crap in my Eclipse and it made it much louder. I don’t trust it. Regular old valvoline gear oil never hurt anything.
