Our car's first oil change was at 1000 miles, second was done at 3000, subsequent oil changes are at 3000 mile intervals. I use Redline, I change it myself, and I only pour in 4-1/4 quarts, I let the car sit overnight then check the level the next morning. Frankly, I think too many people overfill.

I got 3100 miles on mine so far. I dont drive it that hard except for occasional high rpms when someone provokes me on the road. I'll take it in for my first oil change at 3500m. I think the best thing for your EVO is stick to what the manual says, Mitsu built 7 generations of Evos before Evo 8, they know what they are doing. Its funny to read a few posts on here, who seem to know everything about the car after they've owned it for a couple of months, they crack me up!
Stick to your manual and all will be well, good luck!

I don’t care what Mitsubishi says, you can’t properly break in an engine on synthetic oil. Period.
To whoever said to use BG Syncro in the tranny; I tried that crap in my Eclipse and it made it much louder. I don’t trust it. Regular old valvoline gear oil never hurt anything.

See you when your turbo is coked and your motor is "broken" in!

you are right onlineAlias, regular engine oil won't kill your motor but it may kill your turbos... well then again if ur the type to have turbotimer to set it for 10 minutes after every run or sit in the car that long.. all that nonsynthetic oil is going to cook on the turbo like eggs. yum!

I try to change it at least every 2K in the beginning, and then let it get longer to about 3K. I changed it once at 1700 and then I went in for a factory service and oil change at 3200, and I'm never gonna get a dealer oil change again. It costed me 50 bux. And I'm at 8K right now and I'm going to change it again. I haven't had the chance to change it lately cuz I've been busy, plus I got pissed from my first oil change when I couldn't find where to jack and where to put my jack stands and smashed that little part where they tell u to put ur jack and stands. So I'm gonna buy a ramp soon.

i did my first one at 2700 i go tomorrow for my second oil change i am doing 2500 intervals. I was thinking that tomorrow i should have them do my tranny fluids. But i think at 7200 they do it because i got that pit pass thing. not sure. My car shifts fine with 5000 miles on it.

4k miles for first oil change, and usually around 4-5k intervals afterward. synthetic has a longer life than conventional. my oil still looks new when i change it also. i know people are **** about changing their oil, but it really isn't necessary to do it every 1-2k miles, just a waste of money imho, plus owners manual states 5k for normal driving conditions

The numbers on the manual is there for a reference. I recommend that you check the oil once in a while and use judegment when to change it. The car is turbo and is high rev engine so the oil will get dirty or black quicker. If you think it's okay to run like that then do it and leave it to chance. I know I wouldn't.
i also recommend that you change the TC and Transmission fluids. It looked like crap when I change mines the other day. Car have 12K miles. Trans oil looks worst then what I saw on my 89 supra with 120k miles.

my first will come at 1500... and the diff, tranny, and engine will all get Royal Purple... nothing but good things to say about that stuff after swapping it into my cars, and into friends as well...

I have my first check-up July 28th. I'll probably have them change my oil. What does mitsu put in the tranny and differential? I'm wondering if I should get them to put in some redline or royal purple.
