How many miles before the first Oil change.

2500 for the first and 3k after that. I put 4.5quarts and will add the remaining 1/2 of a quart over time since turbos burn oil. Im still very undecided as to what plan to follow with the tanny and diff oils. Any suggestions?

i did mine at 870 first on oil, and it was dirty, also did a top speed run after and it burned a little oil, added oil and it has stoped burning, i think the top speed run set the rings. i am strongly considering changing the trans fluid tonight or tommorow just cause you know,

I took mine to the dealer at 3K and asked for a change. The service manager told me that Mitsu recomended NOT to change it until 5K. I asked if they had a special break-in oil and he said yes. I didn't have it tested or anything but, I would think he would be all for the $$ if it wasn't a big deal.

All you so called experts have not included one mention of oil analysis. If you really want to know when to change your oil, here's what you do. Drain a little and send it and a new quart of Mobil 1 10/30 to a lab. The cost is reasonable. They will report all the significant differences between the two samples and can tell you when to change. This approach is based on fact and chemistry, not guess work. There is nothing more foolish than basing your decision on what everyone else is doing. A poll of when others who don't know sqat have changed their oil; what are you people; sheep?

I changed the oil at 200 miles and there was lots of metal in it. Then I changed again in 800 miles same crap. then after 1125 i sent oil off to Blackstone labs for UOA and there were no wear metals just high Silicon from sealers, normal for new engine.
Warning the mobil 1 10w-30 that was samplied at 1125 miles had thinned down to a 20wt. I would not even think of leaving the factory (break-in) oil in the car for 3000-5000 miles. And if you plan on using Mobil 1 I would not leave it in past 2000miles. I am chosing to use something better YES better. Look a MB approved oils look for ACEA A3 oils that are tested to stay in grade at high speed long drain intervals. but remember 3500miles should be considered a long drain in the EVO. Just have your oil of choice (full synthetic) tested and no more guess work. go to bobistheoilguy.com and do a lancer evolution search to see my results.
hope this helps.

I also changed my oil after the 1st 1000k. People thoughyt I was crazy but its better to breakin a new motor than risk having problems with it later. After that, I would just do it every 3k miles. Unless you are doing alot of racing then I would change it earlier as a safety precaution.

The problem is that oil traps a lot of impurity in the engine: dirt, metal shaving, combustion byproducts, etc.
You can have brand new oil, go racing for 2 hours, and come back with terrible oil. That's why I recommend changing oil before and after every race.
It is best to change oil every day. That way, you know you have a fresh oil supply every time you drive. But you see the problem with that.
Or you could change your oil at 10,000 miles/12 months. Roll the dice and take your chances.
So ultimately it's really guess work. Nobody really knows what is ideal. But a lot of things come into play, like how you drive your car, what you can afford, how much work you're willing to tolerate.
As a service technician (and I know not all technicians are created equal), my recommendation has always been 3-months, 3000 miles, whichever comes first. I also recommend using the highest rated (SJ or SL-rated) oil you can afford in the factory-recommended viscosity.
Changing oil is like cheap insurance for your motor. Plus analysing the used oil will help you diagnose a lot of engine problems, like having coolant in the oil, unusually dirty oil, metal shavings, etc.
