WOOOOO! Excited, The 20gmr machine is back
Well guy/gals It has been a productive winter. Last June I ditched the 20g and got an sc61. The car made great power for the quality of parts I used but I knew the stock shortblock wouldn't take this abuse for long. The clutch was getting tired and it was now time for a 60k service so I decided to yank the engine out and rebuild it as a winter project.
After the tear down a noticed a few things in need of some attention. I found peices of valve stem seal in the oil pickup, and three broken valve stem seals in the head! The only other troubling thing was the main bearing closest to the crank pulley had a spot on it that was worn down to the copper.
I went with all new oem bearings, new oem timing belt kit, je pistons from BUSCHUR,crower rods from BUSCHUR as well, and last but not least a new oem gasket set. I wasn't quite sure about the balance shafts so I waited to decide.
I took the block and all the parts to a local machine shop to have them balanced and have the pistons fit. Once I had everything back I went with the AMS balance shaft delete, I personally really do not care for AMS but I liked the idea of the way their BSR kit worked, and the oil pump was nothing I wanted to chance.
Then it was finally time for assembly . Got the engine all back together and lowered it back into the car.
I have all the guys at BLOUCH turbo, and PPR performance to thank for some awesome work on the turbo. They have been great, and I really can't thank them enough.
The car is up and running now, and will soon be tuned. I am very excited to see some new numbers and get this puppy to the track!!!
I know this is worthless without pics but I will update the thread with them as soon as possible
