"knock" sound from right-rear?

I notice that sometimes, not always, when starting out in first gear, I can hear a metallic thump or knock sound coming from the right-rear of my VIII. It most commonly happens if I reverse first, and then go into 1st and start out. Any idea what it could be?

What it sounds like to me is your parking brake releasing from the inside of the rotor. It happens to me after i wash my EVO or my S-10. OOOORRRRRR when it is cold and there is moisture between the shoes and the rotor. All it is is the shoes breaking free from the metal.

I know what sound you're talking about, that happens to me too when I wash my evo. It's not the same sound though.

ok.... We need more ifo then to be able to help you on this one.

Have you done coilover's recently? Coilover could be loose.

Does the noise happen when you are moving, slowing down, or just starting out from a stop? Could be a loose brake pad or caliper.

Have you replaced brake pads recently? Lug nuts could be loose.

Or is it a constant/ random "knocking" when driving? Coild be a bad wheel bearing.

It is ONLY starting from a stop. Never happens when moving or slowing down. Lugs are tight. Suspension is stock. It's not constant, it doesn't even happen all the time.

do u have a big exhaust? if so, it could be the exhaust flange hitting the drive shaft (have a noise like that on mine, noticed during last oil change a nice but very small ring on my drive shaft, noticed it was coming from the exhaust, grabbed both and the mark lined up and made the same noise)
just a thought

Yeah, I have an aftermarket TBE. I thought the same thing, maybe my driveshaft bushings are worn?

its possible, mine usually does it after its been run really hard, and everything is hot, rubber exhaust hangers i think are just moving a bit more maybe, not too worried about it yet, trying to decide on what i want to do for a fix.

It's just kind of unnerving, makes me concerned about the rear-diff.
