Mine broke a few years ago.

Replaced under warranty, along with my peeling wing!!!!

Not sure what I would do if it happened again, is there any way to reinforce it with a layer or two of fiberglass?

hmmm, I also have a coworker who just did this to his seat. I never knew it was such a common thing until just now. How many of you guys plop yourself into the seat when you get in?

I am 5'8"and weigh 165 lbs. So NO it isn't only the big boys that break the seats.

Mine broke (now fixed) when I was reaching behind the seat to grab something from behind the seat. I heard POP POP....then the right side of the seat was all loose.

The repair is pretty easy but getting the sear apart is a PITA.

Very common problem on the early models. There is supposed to be a TSB on this issue.

Mine broke (right hand side, also) when I was reaching into the back seat several years ago. I think (as others have said) this is a very common problem on at least the '03's.

Wanted to revive an old thread with an update. Mitsu flat out denied my warranty claim with the broke right bolster so I'm going to escalate the issue with Mitsubishi corporate and do as much as I can to get this fixed.

This is definitely a warranty issue. I had another vehicle with a similar problem where under normal use, a seat latch just straight up broke in my hand. Dealer replaced the entire seat to fix the issue. Mitsubishi should do the same.

Definitely. But be annoying. Call them too often and check up on status as often as possible. I found that was the only way to get people's attention over there. Actually, what really got their attention was when my lawyer sent them a letter threatening to sue them.

That's a UK based website that sells the plastic back, I know there is a US based vendor, but can't remember the name/site
Good luck.

By any chance where you ever able to locate the US based vendor for this part? I need the entire plastic backrest and the UK company wants 350 plus shipping which im sure would be outrageus.
