Power steering removal questions...safe???

I am in need of a custom radiator w/shroud and dont have the space, so a few questions...

1) AMS sells the power steering delete kit... the car is built for track, BUT once in a while on a sunday I like to take a long 3-4 hour drive....

Is it safe to drive without power steering on the highway???

2) If I keep the power steering, Is there an alternative reroute of the lines, i need that whole front space for radiator space and those line are in the way

Car has 2.3 sroked motor and GT35 topmount kit...A/C just removed this weekend.

Thanks

Power steering isn't required but recommended for daily driving or just driving in the street in general. If you have enough strength to turn the wheel while the car is off, then no, power steering isn't required for you. But hey, once you start moving the car, it's easy to turn the wheel. Just give it a little gas if you're doing a t-turn or something.

just do it!

i wanna do the same thing, everyone said NO.

I guess no one drove without power steering here?? you can feel the road so much better without power steering, be careful when hitting potholes or it could pull the steering wheel.
if your not DD do it, if your DD and don't mind do it.

top mount + 35R + no power steering = hard core old school style

let me know how the install went, also do a how-to with pics.

Just re-route the fluid cooler line back into itself (the reservoir). I have it done on my car. So I have power steering, but none of the lines hanging out front.

So whats the purpose of the long lines? Is it to give the oil time to cool? There must be a reason for the route the long lines take... Im just curious

Everyone thanks for the input...its really appreciated

Correct, the lines are routed to the front to cool the fluid some.

Once the car is rolling it's not hard at all to turn the wheel. Take it out on some back roads to get used to it but other than that you should be fine.

Generally there's a difference in steering geometry/alignment between a car that comes from the factory with or without PS.

PS might have more caster and quicker ratio VS manual less caster slower ratio

before a PS eliminator kit purchase maybe just take the PS belt off and see how it feels. Don't know how the kit does it though you may be pushing fluid if the pump isn't running, which would make for higher effort.

It will be fine without PS on the highway, thats why I removed mine for the track. Less over correction tendency. But I will tell you right now, you will not like driving it on the road. It is way harder than driving a car that came without PS. It is ROUGH...

Real men don't use PS.

Pull it, take the rack apart and cut the seal out. Fill it with grease and put it back together. Problem solved.
