How much more is a IX worth than an VIII
If you had two cars that were the same other than one being an VIII and the other being a IX, how much more would you pay for the IX?
I am thinking around $3,000 but not really sure. I am curious to get the opinions of others.
Thanks!

dude a evo is a evo dude. The only real difference besides some interior peaces and tranny 5 vs 6 meaning is Mivec. And once you put cams in the evo 8 throw that out the window. A evo is only worth what your willing to pay. Now of course the new car will get you better rates but as far as preformace its a Evo plain and simple i would not pay more cause you think a evo 9 is better thats all in your mind. Thats why we have companies and you can do a built shortblock with the money you save on getting the evo 8. But getting a evo 9 is not bad by any means

I'd probably pay $3-4K, depending. FWIW, a IX with just a TBE/MBC/tune puts down as much whp as a VIII with every bolt-on on our local MD with a broader torque curve and earlier spool to boot. Add everything else, and it works out to a good chunk of change. That's without accounting for the (individual) opportunity costs.

for daily driving
i think the evo9 is more worth it
if u just wanna do bolt on modification
but if u intend to mess with the engine
its better to get an 8
because its cheaper

I dunno, I would actually go with a IX, you get alot more for a few extra bucks such as:
Leather Seats
Front Bumper
Upgraded coolant system
Slightly bigger fuel pump
Bigger Turbo
10.5 Hotside (also available in the '05 Evo VIII)
Metal BOV (holds more boost)
MIVEC
Better Rims (if you go with an MR or SE)
ACD (also available in the '05 Evo VIII)

Thanks for the responses. I think I will probably narrow my search to 05+. I will probably just do the basic bolt-ons and cams. I would like to get close to 350whp.
I owned an 03 before and am just looking for another one.

And let's not forget that the IX's 5-Speed is geared slightly more aggressively vs the VIII 5-Speed. People seem to think that IX's are just magically faster or make miraculous HP. Turbo/Gearing and to a smaller extent MIVEC and that's it.
If I were in the market for an Evo I'd get whatever is cheapest.
