I'm sure most of you have seen this by now but here it is for posterity:

Code:
The April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop did a test of
penetrating oils where they measured the force required to loosen
rusty test devices. Buy the issue if you want to see how they did the
test. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of
pounds the better. Mighty interesting results for simple acetone and
tranny fluid!
Penetrating oil Average load	Price per fluid ounce
None 516 pounds
WD-40 238 pounds	$0.25
PB Blaster 214 pounds	$0.35
Liquid Wrench 127 pounds	$0.21
Kano Kroil 106 pounds	$0.75
ATF-Acetone mix 53 pounds	$0.10
The ATF-Acetone mix was a 50/50 mix (1 to 1 ratio).
Considering the fact that acetone is a strong solvent and not paint-safe, Kroil does a pretty damn good job.

Sounds like you've never had the luxury of owning a car that has rusted, seized bolts on it. PB is great for day-to-day removal of mildly old and stuck bolts but it's not the end-all of penetrating lubricants. I mean sometimes it just doesn't cut it no matter how much you hose down your parts with it. Anything that reduces or eliminates the chances of galling or even shearing a bolt even further is easily worth consideration.

I work at the Sunoco Refinery in Philadelphia and this is all we use. I've never heard of Kroil until I got here. It's the best stuff I've ever used.

At the machine shop I used to work at we would use it by the case! I definitely recommend it! Its better than anything else you can use. I used it one time on a 1951 front loader tractor that had been sitting in a field with the tracks buried ... I didnt break a single bolt!

Aerokroil is the best. I am an aircraft tech, and we use it on multimillion dollar parts.

and as far as being paint safe, we have also used Kroil to remove grease and gunk from our backhoes and skid loaders and its never done any damage to the paint.. but that doesn't mean i would ever let it touch my car.. hah
