So yeah ... this happened while driving home yesterday ...
It's pretty easy to tell that I was driving the car when this happened ... which F'n sucked! I was just driving at about 35 mph on the main road by my house (Hwy. 280 in Chelsea) and "BOOM!" it just exploded.
I flinched pretty hard but luckily didn't swerve or anything. I quickly made sure I was okay and pulled over at WalMart to check out the damages. Nothing is damaged other than the glass. My ear was ringing for a few minutes and there seemed to be some minor hearing loss for the rest of the night, but it seems better today.
I spoke with the local dealer this morning and they are going to look it over for a possible warranty repair. I don't really think it's going to happen though unless they find something really goofed up with the regulator or motor for the window.
I priced OE glass and it is $249 which is basically exactly what my insurance deductible would be. Add labor to that and it might be worth the claim.
I talked to a few people and it seems that this isn't common at all, but it does happen. Usually it's caused by faulty glass or the alignment on the tracks or something causing uneven pressure on the glass. Have you guys ever seen it?

Wow never seen anything like that happen, do you think there is a chance something hit your window while driving? i.e. a rock or something? I suggest you install safety films on your windows, even if they break, it prevents tiny glass from flying all over. Good luck with the claim.

The glass itself breaking was quite loud and right by my ear. I did check for anything bullet-like on the other side of the car and in the fragments, but found nothing. Thinking back afterward, it's wasn't the same tone as a gun shot, so I dismissed that theory. If you can imaging playback of glass breaking, but through a 12" sub-woofer with no crossover ... that's what it sounded like. Almost muffled in tone, but loud as hell.
The damage does remind me of a porcelain resonance shattering, but I really don't think anyone threw a plug at the window. That's just how safety glass breaks in most cases.
There weren't many cars around, but there is a chance something may have been tossed up from the road. I have no way of knowing as it would most likely have glanced off the glass as it shattered and would not be in the car.

Holy crap!
IMHO it must have been hit by something, a pellet gun or a rock. Pellet guns are not loud, you wouldn't hear the shot form inside the car while driving. Hell, I was at my cabin once with my brother's dog and my buddy's dog. They played together many many times and never any problems, then all of a sudden they exploded and were at each other's throats! One had a bloody ear from what we thought was a tooth bite/hole.....a few months later we found a bb stuck in there from a pellet gun! Some kids must have shot at them from a distance.
