8 vs 9 Manifolds

Still pretty much a newb, but I did some searching and didn't find an answer.

Are there any differences in the stock exhaust manifolds between and Evo 8 and 9? I know the 9 has the larger hotside, so is the exhaust manifold also different?

No, there is not a difference.

Try searching a little harder next time.

The exhaust manifolds themselves are the same as far as i know. My friend has a IX and i have and VIII and we have the same header on our cars. The turbo manifolds are different yes, the VIII has a 9.8 and the IX has the 10.5 hotside.

No difference in the exhaust manifolds, just the hotside mount to the turbo.

I personally have never seen anyone talk about this. And sometimes looking for something that im sure has TONS of hits, it would be next to impossible to find the answer.

Really? 'Cause I think I kinda answered his/her question in my first post. What the hell did you do for the OP?

"Try searching a little harder next time" is pretty polite and encouraging IMHO.

I could have said "Search harder newb!" and done nothing for him/her.

WRONG! There were VIII turbos with the 10.5 hotside. They are not considered "turbo manifolds"....you're just confusing everyone.

BOTTOM LINE:

The exhaust manifolds are the same for the VIII and IX.

I've been on this board for a bit now, and I almost hate to ask a question on here because of this. To those of you who understand, thanks!

To those who don't

There are soooooooooo many posts and the search system returns thousands of threads on almost any subject, it's often the proverbial needle in a haystack.

2003-2004 9.8 hot side.
2005-2006 10.5 hot side.
Hot sides are also know as the turbine housing or o2 housing. And it bolts directly to the turbo.

The manifolds for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX are the same.

Use the "Advanced Search".

This thread is going to be closed soon.

The search function used to work great on the site, however, it has sucked for over a year since they did the big system update.

The OP did attempt a search, vs just making a thread without searching

Sorry, but this isn't completely correct (but the part about the exhaust manifold is right).

"Hot side" refers to the turbine half of the turbo. The O2 housing is the cast elbow piece that comes off the turbo right before the downpipe. The turbine side is the half of the turbo the exhaust goes through....hence "hot side". The other side is the compressor side (air goes in, gets compressed, goes out). It's the size of this turbine side housing (hot side) that's different between various stock turbos, not the exhaust manifold or the O2 housing.

You are correct. Thank you for catching my mistake. I was typing too fast and I wasn't paying attention to what I was saying.

BTW this search took me 5 minutes.
