swapping driver and passenger seats

does anyone know if this is possible? i have the SSL package and the wear on the driver seat is bugging me...its not bad but i would prefer it to not get any worse...

so i was looking at the seats and it looks like the only difference would be the knob for adjusting the seat...

any thoughts/input?

NOTE: looking at the seat by the center cubby there is a cap directly on the other side of where the adjusting knob for the seat is and it looks like pieces can be swapped...just never took the time to actually try it...

Your seatbelt would be on the wrong side and the adjustment knob would be on the opposite side and you would have no mounting bracket to bolt the seat down on the right side of the seat and I bet the mounting bracket on the left would hit something.

there are three concerns
1 adjust knob on wrong side
2 seat belt on wrong side
it is possible that the brackets could be swapped
however
3 there is a spacer welded to one side of the seat pan rail and not the other
you may have to remove them to keep the seats level
and if you remove them you should be careful not to damage the seat rail

I wanted a lower seat, so along with an kansai service low seat rail from more-japan I may have the lowest stock seats in an evo

swapping seats seems like a lot of work even for me, just look for a used seat

As posted above, the biggest concern is that the seat belt is on the wrong side.. you can find a used seat for a relatively good deal. but you do have to spend some time searching..

Why not just get another seat? It would still bother me if the passenger seat was ripped.

You can swap them out, you just need to change the mounting brackets, knob, and seat belt latch. All of these things are simple and take little effort.

This thread outline the basics of changing the brackets, you can figure out the rest I'm sure. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-brackets.html

How would you go about changing the knob? The adjustment rod is longer to one side than the other...Thus, it would have to be pushed to the opposite side to change the knob to the other side.

The seatbelt stuff and the mounting brackets...sure easily done.

How about just swapping the fabric between seats and leaving the frames where they are?

BrInging back an old thread.

Did this today since I had a really nice passenger seat that I wanted to swap in the drivers side.

The tilt knob is easy. It just pops off and so does the plastic cover on the other side. Then you just take a rubber mallot and pound the rod so it's longer on the other side. Then take an 11mm deep socket and push the snap ring on the other side so it's tight again. The knob and cover will snap back on.

The brackets are not as easy. Takes a T40 to get them off and they are really tight with thread locker. The biggest issue is they welded spacers on one side of the brackets and spacers on the seat on the other side. So when you swap the brackets you'll have no spacers on one side and double the spacers on the other side. To get around this you have to grind off the welds on the bracket spacers and use washers on the other bracket. I used a Dremel with a cut off wheel. Theres also one tab i had to bend on the passenger right seat rail.

Hope this helps anyone attempting this.
