Brand new EVO piece by piece

I was looking online to see how much new HID bulbs cost at globalmitsubishiparts.com and found they were like $100 a piece. A brand new EVO IX GSR went for $31-32k new if I remember correctly (MSRP), and it made me wonder how much it would cost if you were to build a brand new EVO IX part by part by part by part - Crate engine, tranny, diff, chassis, body panels, interior, etc etc etc.

Now I understand that the prices you pay for EACH PIECE individually (say you got into an accident and needed a bumper....well you'd pay like $800 for a new one, but Mitsu obviously bumps up the price and it probably only costs $100 to make), but again say you were just to build the car up from ground up paying retail prices on all brand new parts, I wonder how much it'd cost.

My guess is around $45,000+. It probably only costs Mitsubishi only like $15k to make our cars new and then you figure markup, etc but paying retail prices on individual parts must cost alot.

I know this is a pretty random post but eh, its whatever

I don't know how accurate this is, but I've been told by a reputable source that each Evo 8/9 sealed headlight costs $1200 new from the dealership. That's per side!

I can only be somewhat nice,....do you really think it only cost 15K to make a car that sells for 35K plus! I did see the smiley so I hope you are kidding......

The automotive industry is so cut-throat people are lucky to make pennies on the dollar....

I would venture to say a 35K stickered Evo cost around 31K or so to manufacture if Mitsubishi is lucky....

Very interesting as I'm interested in Economics. The price of new stock parts are so outrageous it seems that would be where they would make the most money. That and various accessories.

I guess this is the reason I need to stick with cheap cars like Miatas and Civics for wheel-to-wheel racing!

A 20k Honda Accord costs ~32k if purchased part by part. Someone on Honda-tech calculated it. Not sure about the EVO.

exactly.....dealerships or car companys don't really make that much on the car it's the service and the parts that brings the money in......plus you need to consider what it costs to pay the people at the factory puting it together

I know the front bumper, lip, metal backing, supports and undertray plus a couple of wheel liners are over 1500$ It would probably be at least 50K is my estimate not including the chassis or shell

i would think it would cost way more to build it part by part..considering the marked up prices on these parts. Assuming we are using all OEM parts?
