the love for the IX continues-keep your IX's

yeah - I want to keep mine forever, but it is my DD too. I am putting about 13 k miles on it per year. At this rate it should last with reasonable maintenance. The salt thing worries me. Besides frequent car wash trips - what else can be done to keep rust away?

I'm glad that I have my IX SE (though I also had a IX just prior to it), and I do intend on keeping it forever, especially considering how I have the free oil changes for life through South Coast Mitsubishi, which definitely helps a bit here and there with maintenance costs. All of my friends insist that I keep it, which I don't mind. Even when I get my next car (probably within the next three or four years), I'd still like to keep this one. I bought mine brand new in February 2007 (so it is just shy of three years old), and it is still completely bone stock (except now with stock size Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs that replaced the almost worn stock Yokohamas at 25,000 miles), and it now has just around 27,850 miles, virtually trouble-free so far.

The '04 RS had the front helical LSD, while the standard '04 Evo didn't. The front LSD and the ACD was added in the '05s as standard equipment on all USDM Evos. I don't know from personal experience, but I recall reading on this forums back in those days that the addition of the front LSD had a more significant effect on the car's handling than the ACD did (based on people's experience comparing the '04 RS with the standard '04 without the front LSD, and also on how those two compared to the '05s, though since not many people had driven all of the models, a lot of people attributed the enhanced handling to the ACD since it received more publicity within the community than the front LSD).

just so you know, south coast mitsu is selling 4 BRAND NEW evo's 9 MR they had in storage all this years, If I was in the states, I would be all over those, I too plan to keep my nine for ever

I've had a few people showing interest, which I completely understand (since it has relatively little miles for being a daily driver, is in excellent condition, well-maintained, and never tracked). I don't plan on selling it, but I'll keep you on the list
Where did you hear that? I didn't see anything about that on SCE. I live maybe four miles away from the dealership, I can swing by and check it out. I just have my doubts about there having been four brand new MRs that they decided to just stash away.

The IX is definitely the best Evo in my eyes, the steering and suspension feels the best out of all the USDM evo's. With the bullet proof 4G63 under the hood, reliable high horsepower is possible. Only thing missing is SAYC, which can be swapped in for a price...(however only for the rear)
