Just bought an Evo IV.. what to do??
#16
NO the evo IV engine does not fit on dsm 1g/2g engine bay because just like evo 5-9 the engine is flipped 180 degrees (and you should know that since you owned dsm's before). The only engine that has been campatible with the 4g63 dsm engines is the evo 3, hint evo3 16g turbo that all dsm'ers use.

Orrrr you could ship the whole car back, go to the junkyard find a vin # off a mirage and boom. although this is illegal. Honestly i'd just bring the whole car back not the motor. sell the chassis to someone here and keep the motor if thats really what you want to do

Here is what you do, to make things legal:
Separate engine and driveline, ship car and engine in separate containers
At port, declare items as auto parts, not a car
Purchase a 1997-2001 Mirage Sedan
Strip Mirage completely, leaving only the F+R windows and chassis.
Remove Mirage lower floor pan (drill spot welds)
Remove Evo 4 lower floor pan (drill spot welds) reinstall on Mirage
Remove Mirage firewall (drill spot welds)
Remove Evo 4 firewall (drill spot welds) reinstall on Mirage
Swap over every single thing, every bolt, every wire harness, to the Mirage. Everything will fit.
And that's about it. Some people thing just swapping VINs is a good idea, but that's just too much of a risk IMO.
I'm building an Evo 6, I just don't have an Evo 6 I can simply swap parts out of. If you want an Evo 4 in the states, this is the only surefire way. If you just want to swap out the engine, just use the Evo 4 motor mounts and it will fit right in. You will need to custom fit the AWD subframe or use a 01-05 Eclipse transmission and go FWD.
If you end up taking home just the engine, let me know. There are a number of parts I need from an Evo 4 that I have had trouble sourcing.

ruin it?!!??? are you serious? have you forgotten that the EVO was built to be a rally car? don't ruin it by making it a drag racing car! by all means, turn it into a rally, or road racing car. do with it what it was meant to do. if i had any access to rallycross or any other form of rally, my IX MR would have been set up for it a long time ago. suby guys have the right idea when it comes to what they use their cars for. turning first, drag racing a distant, distant 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 28th, or lower.

Rear window (with wiper hole)
Side mirrors
Front knuckles/spindles
Front control arms
Also I have been looking for some Evo 5/6 parts:
Hood
Fenders
E6 spoiler
Door cards
Interior plastics
Lots of stuff. Let me know if you can source any of that. My main priority has been finding the rear window. It would be pretty difficult to ship though.

the difference wit d evo4 and evo5-9 is that evo4 uses main caps like evo1-3. evo5-9 uses main girdle. u can do an evo7 ecu swap in the car. there are many evo4's in trinidad runnin the evo7 ecu wit d tephra mods.
