Question Navigation and Auto Climate Control

Okay, three questions that I've searched on and found little to nothing.

1. Is it possible to get the center surround that has the navigation screen opening in it?

2.If you get the kit to relocate the HVAC controls to the cubby hole does that make it auto climate control? Take a look at the pics of the cars with the controls down there. They have an auto function and a temp sensor built in.

3.Looking at the JDM Accessories brochure on this board, can we get/use the ignition keys that have the keyless entry remote built in?

Thanks!
Shane

Where did this thread go yesterday? I was trying to find it but it was gone.

Anyhow I am interested in some answers to the above questions. I know we have mechanical HVAC controls as opposed to eletronic, meaning we can't have auto climate control without a serious retrofit. Also I doubt we can get the ignition keys unless they can be programmed for USDM cars (in both the immobilizer code and door lock/unlock function code respects). As for the center surround I am sure you can source it, and I'd be interested in knowing if our USDM HVAC controls will fit in the relocation spot for the non-USDM auto climate HVAC controls. Throw up some pics if you have them.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, replacing the HVAC controls with the electronic auto climate controls will not be an easy job, if even possible considering all our units are LHD vs the JDM RHD units. I remember asking someone about it and they promptly shot the idea down.

As for moving the HVAC down, won't we need a new bracket for the HVAC control knobs? Our DIN panel is kind of built for it, so unless you can have one fabricated it would look mighty ghetto...

I am trying to figure out where to put mine cause i need 3 din spots.

1 for my stereo and 2 for a screen.

I will be tearing up my dash this weekend so I will let you know.

So far the stereo is getting dropped to the lower cubbie (with the din conversion) and I am looking at getting the double din surrond off of creative's site then moving my ac stuff to my glove box using RRM's CF glove box plate.

Our jdm climate control is servo actuated, so i guess this would make it difficult to transfer to the US one, but not impossible given the right parts.

The Question I have is, why did not include climate control for the American market? a country with such vast temperature differences year round.... Yes it would have cost a little more, but some things are worth it.

edit : interestingly, the auto climate control unit on my Evo7 are the same as those found in some US models such as the Montero.

jemm, same reason Honda didn't do it with the Prelude etc.

It's all about exclusivity and profit margins.

Im also planning on doing this project...Moving the controls and possibly hooking up servos to control them by computer. I want to move them now however to an ok spot until i get the computer program written. Does anyone know where i can find longer versions of the wires that the controls currently use....because they are only JUST long enough to reach the A/C box...bleh

Would anyone be interested in actually taking this project and trying to make it work? I would try it myself but I'm not terribly inclined to play around in the dash... not really my specialty.

Where does servo unit reside in the car? Is it the same place as the current one? I don't know what wires are actually connected to the unit so unless the hookup wires are the same and it's just a plug and play, I don't think I'd be able to do this on my own.

If you are referring to the US version.....i dont believe there is a servo unit. Ours is mechanical. I've looked into installing and taking out the a/c controls, and read up on it. I am for a fact going to take on this project, and i will keep you updated. If you have any questions about it, PM me, and ill try to answer you as best i can.

OZlightning,

My bad!

I meant to say, in the Jspec versions where does the servo unit reside in the car? You're right, ours is mechanical, sorry about the bad wording

In any case, how do you plan on doing it? jemm mentions that we use the same unit as the the one in the montero, do you think we could just pick up one of those and use it in our cars?

I guess if we were able to get this unit into our car, we'd move it into the lower cubby, and free up 2 DIN spaces in the upper area for a headunit and gauges, maybe? Very cool. Keep us updated!

My current plan is rebuilding the controls using servos, i am molding an LCD touchscreen in the center where i will put digital a/c controls ( a vb program) that controls the servos (acting as if you were turning themselves with your hands...i will keep you updated

Wow, elaborate!

A lot more work than I would do...

I guess right now what I want to know is what is involved with swapping out our mechanical controls and replacing it with servos.. or rather, where can we get a servo unit, and do they use the same power/hookup lines as the mechanical unit?
