Dealership replace axle = fail

I had an abs sensor and an axle replaced at a dealership the other day and had my tires rotated and re balanced. When I took the car home, I noticed a pulsing sound coming from behind me while driving on the highway and it was causing the whole car to vibrate. I thought it may have been a problem from the balancing and was gonna go back Monday for them to check it, so I got under the car just before to look around knowing they replaced the axle to find this. Does this look like a leak? Or does it just look like a sloppy mechanic who didnt clean up the area?

its so cold out a drop of it froze to the housing. Im extremely worried their F up may have killed my diff! I dont know how much fluid may have came out if it is a leak nor do I know how much fluid is in there right now. Any opinions? Im going right to the dealer Monday morning for them to check it and tell me if its the diff making the noise and Im going to watch them do everything. I hate taking my car places. 1 thing gets fixed, 2 more things are wrong when you get the car back.

ding ding ding. Im starting to have second thoughts about that place, I originally liked them. After seeing this, Im not too sure depending on how they handle it from here. All Im gonna say is if my diff is done for they better be paying for it to be replaced.

It looks like the mechanic didn't take the time to clean up the diff fluid that leaked out during the axle replacement. The area around the axle and the seal look dry, but I can't be sure just by looking at the picture. I would definitely check the diff fluid level before driving the car any further.

It looks like alot for just being some fluid that leaked out when they changed the axel (they are supposed to drain it first, then refil it) but you said the fluid froze? gear fluid doesn't freeze untill it reaches a Extremely low temp, I have never see it freeze in my whole work experience. Maybe its not gear fluid but some kind of penetrating solution? Gear fluid smell horrible you know if its gear fluid or not just by that horrible smell, its one of the worst smells out there and it kinda gets stuck in your nose so you smell it all day.

Ya theres a drop of fluid frozen to the housing, I thought that too that the fluid shouldnt freeze. So who knows what it is. I just hope my diff isnt f*cked. Its really obvious though, I dont understand how they didnt hear or feel it on the test drive that something wasnt right. They have to pull right out onto a highway, the noise and vibration would have been instant at highway speeds.

If this was warranty work... you get what you pay for. I had a dealer mech. drop my transfer case, crack it, and re-install it, I drove it home just to find out I had a leak. The worst part was that they didn't even install my front motor mount bolt! I ended up getting a new transfer case but it was a pain in the ***.
