the main time that roof-racks normally scratch is when the wind deflector is used. ie where the deflector rests against the roof.

I don't have a thule so I can't tell you about the fitment, but I have a yakima that looks pretty close to that and I can tell you where the foot and metal clip clamp on to the car, there's a good chance you'll get some minor scratching. It happened on my last car that I had the rack on. Since getting the evo I grabbed some clearbra stuff off ebay and put little strips on every part the rack touches and that seems to be working out alright so far. Doesn't look that bad when the rack is off either, I hardly notice it, but if that kind of thing bothers you, you can just take it off when the rack's off. I think I got enough of the tape to re-cover the thing 20 or 30 times if I wanted to, for I think about $15 or $20.

the thule rack will not work with the MR roof. you have to get the the yakima one because the thule one sits on top of the roof and the yakima one sits over the frame by the door frame.

everybody thanks for your help.
but I am still skeptical about the thule 480 traverse not working for the evo.
I have a picture of an sti with the thule rack system installed and it looks like it will be fine, since it doesnt mount to the gutter.
this is a 2010 edition, which I believe wont be a problem getting installed n my car, judging from how the sti looks.

If the rack system is like the one you just posted it'll be fine for your MR, If the thule system is like the one evolution7gsr posted then it won't work for the MR.

Just to let everybody know, Rack fit wonderfully using the thule 480 traverse for the 2006 lancer configuration.
I have absolutely no problems getting it on there, installs in 10 min and does not do any harm at all to the vehicle.
I will take some pictures later.

If you read the owner's manual you'll see that putting a roof rack on the aluminum roof evo is a bad idea.

If you read and see the pictures that I have been posting you will realize that the roof rack does not mount to the roof, but rather on the side pillars, it just requires a little bit of attention, look at the huge sti picture I posted.
I recently used the rack with my board and my friends board, absolutely no problem. I love the roof rack. Not a single scratch on the car.
-Thule 480 Traverse with 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer fittings
-Yakima Buttondown aero 4 snowboards.

just like the pictures I have attached.
This installs/uninstalls in 5 minutes. (Dont mind my friend, we where tired after 3 days of snowboarding).

Thats exactly what i use my Yakima for. Like everyone said, if it mounts on the frame like the Yakima or the NEWER Thule, you're fine

boostless, which model yakima do you have? i don't know much about roof racks, what kind of straps do you use to hold the bike to the roof rack? are those separate or do they come with the roof rack?
