Doesn't E30 M3 have rear semi-trailing arm suspension?
Yes..

And stock perhaps High Speed lane change manuevers are shakier than other types but the car did 143 MPH in 1988 and felt SOLID at that speed so I don't know what to tell you..

I think that suspension setup benefits the M Coupes and E30 M3's for the twisties less than top speed neck and neck racing..the E30 M3 would be underpowered to say the least.

Wait, that's exactly why. An E30 M3 will pull away from an E36 M3 or E46 M3 in the curvies, but then lose in the straights..

But then those curves come again and he creeps up on you again..

Question Ok, so an RS with the "urban jungle" package is...

more or less a regular EVO without the wing and HIDs, but WITH the limited slip front dif and rear strut bar??? Am I right? If I am, this would sound like a real good option to the regular EVO.

And without the ABS from what I have seen. If so they can keep it because on the street ABS can and will save your ***. I understand the need NOT to have it on the track and especially in the dirt, but not in everyday driving.

I'm just a lurker wannabe here.... but I 'm surprised so many EVO owners are downing the RS. Granted the weight reduction is not real exciting, but the PRICE reduction ought to be exciting as heck especially for those of us who can't afford 30 large. Basically yo're getting all the EVO goodness for $4000 less.

Let me put it this way. If I were to GIVE you a EVO RS. And suppose you have $4000 play money. Would you:

a) use the $4000 to buy air conditioning, rear wiper, sound insulation, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, etc etc.

or

b) use the $4000 to buy a down pipe, turbo-back exhaust, IC pipes, boost controller, SAFC, Tein suspension, etc etc...

If you're a hardcore modder, it shouldn't take more than a millisecond to decide.

evo msrp $28,987
evo invoice $26,891

RS msrp $26,XXX

Where do you get $4000???

Also, I bet you could get an evo for invoice easier than an RS for invoice.

Still the difference is only about 2k

Not because the car has less techno goodies than the E46 M3...

If you want to discuss the reasons the E30 M3 can hang with the "newer M's, let's talk..

As this car evolved, it was lightened, but never stripped of options..

Did you even READ the build and features of this "MR" model?? This car is the EXACT type of "evolution" in a car that supports your rant and beliefs!!
Cool out. I was basically agreeing with you. I just think cars should be lighter, that's all.

BTW, I have two E30s and an E36 (and now an Evo 8, too!). I much prefer the handling characteristics of the E30.

Me too!

I have a nice E30 track car that started as a 1991 318is but now has an M20 drivetrain + 4.10:1 LSD and tons of suspension work. It's a monster on the track. I never thought I'd have a non-E30 track car...until I drove the Evo

Now, I'm in heaven.

Now what?

Ok, so when will we find out MSRP for the RS?

...and when can I order one.

(shamelessly prefers the RS concept)

My salesman at my local mitsubishi dealer just called me and offered me an EVO for invoice. He told me that he'll show me the paper work stating what invoice price is but I told him I wanna hold out a few months until the release of the RS.

He was cool about it and wasnt pushy.

I'd like to get my EVO RS in white.....with no options....

Hopefully if msrp is $26,XXX, invoice should be like $24,XXX

It'll be more affordable for me in the long run, and more of the racers car, just as the Integra Type R was the track version of the Integra's..

Evo RS SPOTTED!

Saw an Evo RS at work today.. ( I work at Infineon Raceway ) being tested for a magazine comparo against a GT3 Porsche and a Corvette Z06.... RS was def down on power but looked pretty quick around the track. Heres a pic, I think its jealous of my cars (pictures right) wing/AC/Radio and extra power from my Vishnu Stage 1
