I usually put in just under 5 quarts. These cars love oil. They tend to burn up a decent amount in between oil changes. Check it before your next oil change and I bet you will be right at the fill line.

Mine doesn't burn oil either. So I guess someone took good care of my car early in her life. (Which is surprising knowing the owner...)

I don't ever have an issue with it

To the OP your fine if you changed your oil added 5 qts and checked your dip stick its going to read a bit high start the car and run it let the oil settle back down to the oil pan check it again in 20 mins it will be a bit lower then before caus now you have oil in the filter and housing area waiting for the next time your start it up.

Evos seem to be exceptional at not burning oil.

my '07 wrx never burned any oil. Don't know if it is normal for subarus to burn oil. I'm hoping my evo doesn't burn through a whole lot either

usually its difficult to drain it out completely; typically you get out about 4.5Q. so it probably means you only went over by 1/2 a quart, as others said your ok.

Guy.. Here are the problems of overfilling..

The crank may whip the oil and cause it to foam.. This foamy oil will not lubricate due to the air now present in it.. The crank may not whip the oil at a standstill but it might during a turn. This is one of the problems with a wet sump setup like ours.

I would highly recommend that you drive around for about 10 mins in different conditions, highway acceleration, corner a little hard and normal driving here and there.. Stop the car and immediately check the dipstick. If you see bubbles on it or dots of missing oil instead of a steady coating on the dipstick, change your oil, not drain it.. The anti foaming agents will be killed by then. Replace the filter. Do not forget to prime the new filter with as much oil as possible and refill fresh oil. Throw in only 4.5 quarts and start the car to allow the turbo and filter to have their share of the oil. After about 15 seconds, turn off the car and check the dipstick for the oil level.. Add accordingly.. Do not aim for the max level. Keep it around 3/4th way to max. This will give room for expansion due to heat.

After a 100 miles, replace the filter again and make sure you top off but carefully.

Let us know of your decisions. But do not sit on this. Good luck
