Okay, I will order the ACT HDSS and flywheel and keep it in a box until the clutch starts slipping bad. Even the guys at work are surprized at how long it has lasted.

I think its funny everyone thinks the stock EVO clutch is so weak. IMHO, the stories about the stock clutch being weak have always been incorrect.

Some facts:

4RETECH - 200K miles, NO launching, stock clutch still good

Others have made it to 80-100K miles on the stocker, with light abuse

and on my own cars..

05 GSR - 30-40 launches, 25K miles, stock clutch still good

06 IX - 40-50 launches, 45K miles, stock clutch still good

Regardless, Congrats to RETECH again for hitting 200K.

I agree. The problem is not now, nor has it ever been a clutch problem. it's always been a DRIVER problem. Like these people that get less than 10k out of a stock clutch and try to blame mitsu...you need to invest in a driver mod before getting another clutch. I got over 70k miles out of my stocker with plenty of launching, autocrossing, and general vehicular tomfoolery. When I replaced it, it was slipping a little, but it still had some life. I was having other maintenance done, so while it was down i had the clutch done as well.

First of all - congratulations. This is really impressive and a must read for all Evo owners who are constantly told that our car is not reliable. Your Evo has made it to an impressive milestone with nothing more than general maintenance. I am absolutely amazed and relieved to know that mine may have a long future ahead of it!

I am in a similar situation as yours with tons of highway driving. The good news is that there is less wear and tear on some parts of the car but the bad news is that the highway miles are hell on the exterior of the car. How is yours holding up? I would think that with 200k of mostly highway miles, you have had to see tons of road rash (especially on the front bumper). Any good fixes for this that have worked for you?

Congrats again. I am looking forward to seeing a thread where you made it to 300k.

250k you should hit in no time.
Good to hear that one has made it this long though.

I bought my IX with a slipping clutch, that was slipping pretty bad, and still managed to pull 3,000 miles out of the slipping clutch in a DD City environment with constant stop and go.

As one poster said before, its not the car, its the driver.

Clutch engage/disengage count is also a large factor in clutch longevity I would think, not just miles. If comparing a 10 mile city commute vs a 150 mile highway commute, I bet the city has more wear and tear.

Yeah, the hood and bumper are looking sandblasted although we tried some self healing paint on the bumper. It is some softer paint that doesn't chip, but I don't really like the texture. The body shop guys here wanted to try it.

I think after I get a Carbon Lip I will have to have the front repainted.
