Freshly built engine, dip stick got pushed out.
Hey all, I just finished putting together my engine about two weeks ago. It's got around 300 miles on it so far. I had a moment of weakness and hit boost getting onto the highway last night. about 18 PSI for less than two seconds. Today my dip stick was out of the tube. Well out of the tube, actually. I'm worried. This is the first engine I've ever built and would like it to be as good as I thought it was.
Some information that could be of relevance,:
The pistons are JE 2618 10:1 pistons, using the rings that come as part of their drop-in set.
The second ring gap is quite a bit wider than I wanted. the top rings were hand fitted to .015-.016 I don't think they're a problem. The second rings are recommended to be less than .001 larger than the first, but as shipped they measured .021-.022. If I'd had time, I would have ordered different rings, but I could not do so.
I'm using the stock PCV system. All of it original, with no catch can, however, It's all 80,000 miles old, from 2003. I intended on getting crank vents from MAP but haven't gotten to them yet.
Cylinder wall clearance is also probably a bit loose. I used stock sized pistons in a used engine and had no way to check clearance, though the block was honed professionally.
I have not done a compression check or leak-down test yet, Should I be worried? I don't have a leak down tester currently, is there anything else I can check out? Sorry for the long post, thanks for your help.
If it comes down to me zip-tying the dipstick to the tube, I'm ok with that too. though it is ghetto.

It popped out because of crank pressure. First make sure all the o-rings are on your dipstick. Second, replace your PCV. See if it happens again. The spring used to hold the dipstick in is a bandaid.

I disagree with Mautofied actually, it is not a band-aid. I don't think Buschur sells many band-aids. The pressure is higher because of your built motor. This is very very very common in 4G63's. Look back at the DSM days, it's happened for over 20 years now on our motors. As for the vents, they help but the stick will still pop out under heavy load, I got them and it still pops out. I'm also running a catch can, just never took the spring off after installing my catch can. Just get a spring and call it a day. The HELP spring pack that people use for their waste gate has one that works good.
