Walbro fuel pump whine???

I was wondering do the walbro pumps tend to go bad?? cause today i just noticed that the pump was whining really loud it sounded like a race car pump. Do you guys think thats normal?? I took the pump out but is there a way to test it when its out?? Btw its a 255 and it came with the car when i bought the car, so i dont know how long it has been in the car for.

I have never heard of one going bad, they whine regularly. How many miles are on yours though or how old?

I have changed my pump due to the whine. Funny thing is the new one will whine after a couple thousand also, just usually on very hot ambient air temp days.

well it was 76 today it wa kind of hot, BUT the noise was really loud. I dont know how old it is cause it was in when i bought the car. The car has only 46k miles on it. I dont know i just dont remeber the pump being this loud. Im afraid im gona get strained on the side of the road if it goes out.

Mine does the same thing. Has since new. If your extremely worried. Just buy a new one and have it in your car. It shouldnt take more then 15-20 minutes to change it on the side of the road

Always try and stay above a 1/4 tank. Keep theese pumps submurged and they stay pretty happy. Heat from running low on fuel can kill in tank pumps in any car.

Maybe its just me but I have noticed my walbro seem to be louder when I have less than 1/2 a tank, or after I have been driving it for a while. I dont think its abnormal for it to be loud. I have owned a few walbros for both mitsu and toyotas, they all seem loud.

Pumps will get hot and loud when ran low in fuel not being submerged.
I have seen a few failures.
