4th pops out randomly WTF...
Ok well to start i have used the search button... but i just finished fixing my tranny and got everything back together and is working great except.... 4th gear randomly pops out of gear... when i had the tranny apart i looked at everything and all my syncroids looked perfect.. then i went and re checked all my motor mounts and found my top left was hella loose and fixed that. but still pops out of gear. so i then checked all my linkage and looseded it up and tried to move it to a slightly different position. but still having the same issue.. does anyone have any advice, this is driving me crazy and i refuse to use the gear now..
The only thing i can think it is, is that my motor mounts are not working properly. i noticed when i was installing the bottom motor mount i noticed their was play in between the bolt and the actual hole in the motor mount. is that normal? the bolt fit perfectly in the metal bracket holding the motor mount but not the mount itself..

I really think it mite be something with the motor mounts. i feel a bit more vibration in the cab than normal. can anyone tell me if the bottom motor mount has a metal sleeve that gos into the mount itself?? when i was putting the bottom mount in i noticed that their is quite a bit of play between the bolt and the engine mount. also does it matter when you tighten your engine mounts, like engine full weight on it or jacked up with no stress on the mount?? I really need to figure this problem out, i need to get a tune in two weeks and ive waited far to long on their list to miss this appointment...

i had the trany open tho and every thing looked amazing, not a single tooth was grinned or shaved at all and all the syncros looked great. but i did notice randomly i will get lockout or something and cant get into a cirten gear or all of them. and all i have to do is jiggle the shifter a few times or kinda lightly work it back in for worth as its locking out. but it doesn't happen very often and mainly with my 4th. I know every one favors pointing fingers at the syncros but, their not bad.

Now my car is getting bad lockout on almost all gears... i maybe think i need to adjust my clutch pedal. cuz i put a new clutch in. How far should your clutch fork travel when you have the clutch pedal pressed all the way?

Based on all the responses, not a good sign at all. I can only think of a few possibilities - a) your tranny fluid has leaked out and now your tranny is cooking itself, b) the associated bolts are loosening and something is misaligned. You'd better pull your tranny and re-examine it before you lose it...

I used to rebuild these trannys, usually popping out of gear is a bent shift fork, the gears aren't engaging properly, and when power is applied they seperate and you pop out of gear. You don't have to bend a shift fork much for this to happen, .05" is enough. Usually a bent shift fork is caused by people getting lockout issues from a heavy clutch disk (stock type full face disk). The person gets lockout, tries to force it in gear, bends the fork. Problem is when you put full power on a partially engaged gear you are reducing your contact surface and have the possibility of stripping gears. One of my good friends did this with about 350whp, so it's not big HP cars that have to worry, it's all cars.
Shift forks are cheap (roughly $100-125 new). Buy a new 3/4 shift fork and drop it in, along with either adjusting your current clutch to get rid of lockout, or a lighter clutch disk. Shift forks, clutch and Redline (heavy) shockproof will have you fixed up. Since you already dissasembled your tranny I assume this will be no problem for you.
Oh, and if you have the cash, get a twin disk to eliminate your lockout.
