Project Time Attack (Need feedback, huge post)
Greetings everyone!
So I've been reading, reading and reading some more and the time has come to realize a plan.
My history - started out with an Evo 8, followed by a 9 and now a 10 which is on sale as it is right now and I'm going back to the roots. I don't like the 10 as a potential car for racing since I don't have the budget to turn it in to a monster neither am I satisfied with the daily driveability of the car (trunk space being the biggest problem I have with the car)
So anyways, I'm planning to make a car that's still going to be used as a fun daily car(primary concern) but will be used to compete in Auto-X events (secondary concern - still very important) and a real trackday here and there (least concern).
Now I have a few possible cars available to me at the moment but the one that I'm most likely getting is an USDM 2005 Evo 8 (30k miles, bone stock). The chassis is in ok condition and I will start the hipothetical project from that car.
I'll start off with what I want from the car. I want spool and I want power. In that order. I like chasing fast cars on the highway but turns are my primary goal and that's where it's at. So let me kick off with the mod list I had in mind:
Power mods:
- Stock bottom end as long as it holds and most likely a stroker (for some more spool) when it does fall apart
- Turbo swap for FP HTA Green / BBK Full
- ARP Headstuds
- Cams - I was thinking GSC S1
- Intercooler+ piping kit of any brand that works (most likely ETS 3,5" kit)
- Open filter intake of some sort (more of a ricer mod mainly as I like the BOV sound unless there's some spool characteristics I'm unaware of)
- Boost control (what to get here ? What provides the best spool? Is there any difference MBC/EBC/ECU?)
- o2 housing(any specifics on o2's that make a difference?) and full 3" TBE, catless
- Walbro pump
- Blow off valve (to replace the plastic 8 valve) - thinking APS Twin here if I can find it
And the handling mods:
- Coilovers (something decent in the lines of KW/Eibach/Ohlins)
- Swaybars - are they needed with coilovers?
- Braided brake lines
- Track pads
I'm looking for feedback, ideas, suggestions and the answers to the questions asked in the post.
And a P.S. Question: is an evo 9 worth it over the 8 (the price difference is approx 5000-10000$ in Europe between a 2005 8 vs 2006 9 approx same mileage)
Thanks for any feedback!

Looks like your on the right track for sure. Turbo wise either is a good choice for what your looking for, but the BBK has more overall power potential with fantastic spool. I would skip the GSC s1' and get the 2's. They will make more power and are probably one of the best if not the best cams out there. Good luck and have a blast!!!

I would say you have a pretty good start for making a time attack or track car. In my opinion you should get the 8 to start with because if the price difference is really that great the Mivec and few little upgrades from the 8 to the 9 isnt worth that difference. The S2s will make bigger power than the S1s but you would have to look at dyno graphs to see if it moves your powerband further up in the RPM range. If its a track only car or the laws are pretty lenient in Slovenia I would go with an open dump O2 housing or the MAPerformance O2 eliminator downpipe with open dump.

About the S2. I know for a fact the S2's will make more power but I just can't seem to find any decent comparison about spool. Hoping for the auto-x guys to chime in this topic too.
