normal for a boost gauge to do this??

i have an AEM analog boost gauge. everything is installed correctly and works perfect. i noticed the other day driving around, while sitting at idle my boost gauge reads about 1 psi of boost. the slightest tap of the throttle and its hit 5psi quick, then it takes a little more gas to get the psi up like normal. so is this normal with my kind of mods? thanks

adam

You should have no positive vaccum when not in boost period.

i understand that, thats why im trying to figure out what might be causing the gauge to read that way.

i T-d the vac source from the vac line going from my intake manifold to my BOV.

Positive vacuum when not in boost? I almost fell off my chair...

To the op: while sitting at idle the gauge should be reading vacuum. Depending on cams and so on, more vaccum or less ... But VACUUM. Touching the throttle should take you to some boost pretty fast but just "blipping" the throttle real fast should maybe get you to 0, not +5psi. If your car is turned on and idling and your gauge is reading 1psi of boost, that's incorrect.

hmmm. I have mine tapped in to the FPR but I would think any point after the Cold side would be fine.

The gauge could be broken or if it never worked u could have tapped the wrong vacuum line it could be the boost control solenoid pressure ur reading

still, vaccuum should be read around 20hg (at least mine does) at idle, and as stated above, any throttle should bring you close to 0 or exceed 0. sounds like your gauge is brken. try and reinstall it w/ a different tapped source and see if the problem persists

Yup. Try a mechanical boost gauge next time, they generally seem to be more accurate and last longer.

Before you buy a new one, see if u can get a buddy to let you try out his boost gauge and if they read the same, then the problem is somewhere else. ...but it is most likely the gauge , other wise your running an antilag system and you dont know it haha
