Have a 2006 evo 9 puttin in kelford 272 cams. Did everything but when i went to start the mivec is clicking really bad. when i turn it over by hand you can see the cam snap forward. The car wont even start now. When trying to turn over with the key the clicking is very severe. I NEED HELP ASAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE AS I WRITE THIS!!

sorry to hear that. i had that problem once, loud clicking sound while cranking the motor, once it starts though and oil goes to the mivec cam, the sound then immediatley goes away. I would still get that sound sometimes when the car was hot and i tried to re-start the engine. Eventually i changed the mivec cam gear and that was the end of that problem.

i know it sounds stupid but sometimes people tend to mix up the intake and exhaust cams up

Are you 100% positive your cam timing is correct?

yes checked the timing 10 times

an now we were turning the cams over an a rocker arm poped out im not 100% sure its the mivec now i think it might be both cams

how could it have bent valves? we were turning over by hand we would have known if we were hitting a valve. does anyone know were i can find full instructions for evo ix cams?

you got the dowel pin in the wrong spot. Your timing marks are lining but the cam is not pashed correctly to the gear. and the mvec gear will make some hella noise till it builds oil pressure. compression test it and post the results.
If you have beer and gas money pm me I may be able to come help. I have done 4 sets of ix cams.

or the mivec gear needs to pump up its oil psi considering that's what it works off of ... mine made noise at start up and as soon as it got oil it went silent ... your car not starting on the other hand check sensors plugs etc

HERE IS THE SOLUTION

We have done MANY MANY head builds and such whre the head has been off of a IX for quite some time so the oil drains from the mivec solenoid and will have that bad clicking sound while turning the engine over or running.

We always pour oil straight into the head with the valve cover off right over where the mivec picks its oil up from the head. Turn the crank by hand. Sometimes it takes up to 4-5 revolutions of the engine to get the thing to fill with oil. You can head it click just by turning it with your hand. As soon as it stops clicking you are done. Start it up and you should have no problems.

If your car is not starting i would do as someone else suggested and make sure the mivec gear with no tension on the belt is fully turned backwards and in the retard position so it cannot jump.
