Why do people criticize the evo?

I'm 30 WHICH IS NOT OLD BTW!!! I am on my second EVO (totaled an 8 gsr and now have a 9 gsr). I love the car PERIOD! I bought a daily driver before so I could keep the evo cuz I was hitting 100k. I wrecked my 8 with 120k on the odo and going strong!
I don't have many haters arounds since if anyone complains I take them for a ride and shut them up to the point they either love the EVO or are scare sh@tless of riding with me....

I think most people don't understand that there are other types of racing besides drag LOL. A guy at work the other night asked me why I was spending money on a little foreign car when I could build a muscle car; I then explained that I like my car to be able to turn haha.

Its not really the hate aspect. In fact most enthusiasts are always interested. Its the fast and furious comments that get to me. What poeple don't understand is whats the difference between this and a new camarro, challenger, or mustang? Obviously they are different in certain ways but there both mant to do something in common. I think its really the looks that throw people off.
you should ask those guys if they now dislike Mustangs being there was one in the Fast and the furious drift. People are going to talk just to make themselves seem bigger or better. What about the 35+ year old guys driving their First car still? I mean reguardless its now a 9 second honda civic. but non the less. People will always have their stereo types about things. Hell i really throw everyone for a loop. I own an Evo, Lifted Dodge ram, a harley, and a yamaha raptor quad. just my 2 cents!

As well for the v8 see Zr1 /topic. I love my Evo, but if my family situation was different a turbo v8 drag car would be in my garage.........yea faster then theeee fastest Evo on the planet with ease. Sorry boys you aint beating the v8 cars anytime soon.........granted there are some but none of any serious caliber.
Consider this... a bone stock 286hp Evo IX ran an 8:11 seconds on the Nurburgring. This is not slow by any means. The 2010 420hp Camaro SS is 9 seconds behind the mark. Imagine what an FQ400 would post? And on top of that, most guys on this forum (including myself) have the power of an FQ400 (or more) but in addition have better suspension, wheel, and tire set ups. I even have aerodynamic parts all around. And no one on here is comparing an Evo to a ZR-1. They are different cars, just like the ZR-1 and Veyron are different (and shouldn't be compared.) And I have yet to come across a Camaro or Mustang (stock or modded) that can do what my car does on the Interstate or B-roads. The only v8s that give me a run for the money are Corvette Z06s because they were designed to do more than run the quarter mile. There are other cars that suck at drag racing like an M3 CSL, but post an astonishing 7:50 on the "Ring." The quarter mile isn't the only way across the finish line.
You've got a great car so enjoy what it is. And I love the new Mustangs and Camaros. But as far as I'm concerned in the real world on multiple tracks, the V8s (Corvettes not withstanding) aren't beating the Evos any time soon.

Just the other day I ran across a guy who was a self-proclaimed gearhead so I asked what kind of car he drives. He said he drives a '96 Impala with a 427 in it. Not my thing but cool nonetheless. He then asked what kind of car I drive and I told him I drive an Evo IX. He rolled his eyes and went on to say that he hates Japanese cars like mine because they "need to use turbos to make power" and that the only argument he ever hears from "evo guys" is that we get better gas mileage than him (wait really? THAT'S the only argument you get? ). But wait, it gets better. He then went on to say that NO street cars can POSSIBLY create downforce so ALL spoilers are completely pointless...
Some people are just ignorant and will never be able to appreciate cars that are different from theirs because they have had their head too far up their a**es for too long. Personally, I was kinda smirking until the part about no spoilers ever creating downforce, then I nearly pissed myself laughing .

Maybe another point of view---maybe people dont hate the car---, maybe they hate the drivers of said cars because of their actions-- You can read thru the posts here with plently of references to street racing, displays of power, displays of rice, teaching others a lesson, trying to convert passengers opinions and the list gos on and on..Then you can throw on the movie stereotypes and you have what is referred to as Haters. The again there are those that have to teach evo drivers a lesson---and the list goes on. testosterone is a *****..

i tend to find that the people that talk bad about them, are also the ones that go quiet after you take them for a spin
next time someone says something like that to you, just smile at them the way you do when you hear your turbo spoil up!!!

Here's my take. Owning mostly nothing but domestic cars my whole life, I once had the distinct superiority complex when it comes to imports, as do most prideful domestic owners. However, one night while out looking for trouble, I found it in the form of a little white Evo VIII which proceeded to walk my Bolt-On 2004 SVT Cobra like it was tied to a stump. After that, I added the Evo to the very short list of imports that I respect and admire, along side the likes of the Supra and the GTR Skyline.
Now, fast forward 2 years, I am actually very seriously considering buying my own Evo 9 very soon and really cannot figure out why I have not owned one already. My thinking is it's literally the best of all worlds, ability to produce stupid amounts of power, AWD for snow in the winter, better gas mileage, 4-doors with an actual useful back seat, useful trunk, it just seems like it's a vehicle that could suit everything I need in a vehicle.
As for people criticizing the Evo, most of that is due to ignorance. Plain and simple ignorance, and that is from first hand being ignorant to the Evo world, and finding the Evo to be quite a remarkable machine!
