HID recommendations/advice

Hi, I'm planning on getting HID's for my 05 evo's stock headlights currently running halogens. I know HID's will not be as sharp unless i get HID headlamps but I'm not about to spend 200+ for those right now. I have heard a lot about DDMtuning kits w/ slim ballasts and was wondering if that is the way to go or should i try HIDextra which is a vendor here. Both are similar in price ~$60.

I am thinking about getting 55w ballasts and i dont think HIDextra has those...
also im debating on 6000k or 8000k for the 55w setup.

I have heard bad stories about headlights not turning on when the car is already on and in gear or something. Possible Daylight Running Light problems? i dont think evo's have DRL...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/la...d-problem.html

Will i expect similar problems? My friend has some $170 digital ballasts that doesn't have the problem.

Thanks

ps. add some pics if you want with your HID specs

I put a kit on my rock crawler (h3) 35w from retro solutions and they are ridiculously bright compared to regular bulbs. They are in my driving lights though, offroad only. That being said if you run them in a non HID housing the cut off will be off and most likely blind oncoming traffic. I personally would not put HIDs in the headlights unless they were designed for it.

We have a vendor here that sells good quality HID kits. I have the 5000k 35w Phillips bulb versions on my SVTF. Work great too.

I bought a HID kit from HIDExtra for my 05 evo and they are working just fine. I went with the 6000k and I think its just the right amount of blue. Plus you cant really beat that price.

Maybe the bulbs but not the ballasts. Not everything is the same.

I really doubt it. They draw less amps than the stock lights.

don't get the 55w as they create alot of heat for the housings. i have the 35w 10k bulbs. they are a little bluish, but very bright. you read about people saying that anything over 6k is pointless, but the 5-6k were actually too bright for me. the 10k is like daylight and i can still see signs up to a half mile away. i have the halogen projectors in my car, and i haven't had a problem with beam pattern or whatnot. they are aimed to where the halogens were and not at oncoming traffic. i've had them for 2 months now and i use them every morning, (4:30 am), on the way to work. not a single issue with install or flickering. i still haven't hard mounted them anywhere so they just sit where i put them for now. very good kit so far. and for $60 bucks, you cant beat that!

Take a pic of the lights shining on the garage door so you can see the cut off of the beam. I have Hella h4 bulbs and housings and with HIDs in them it was terrible. The light went way too high and was unsafe. With regular bulbs they were 10x better and plenty bright for the road.

im in ur boat also but I have to disagree with the guy who posted not puttin hid kits on cars that aren't made from the factory that way. I have plenty of friends who have done this and had nothing go wrong, I also had an rsx type s and had an hid kit and all was fine. I would recommend a 6k kit though if u decide to go through with this.
