Car isn't firing.

I just had my motor built and running recently. I drove and put over 100 miles trying to break it in. While cruising on the interstate, my car suddenly started sounding weird. I put it in neutral to coast down but the car shut off. I've checked timing, which is good. Did a compression check, which is good and even across. Got fuel, got oil, got air. Checked all the couplers and vacuum lines, good. Everything seems good, except spark. Seems like 1 and 4 is sparking, but 2 and 3 isn't sparking. I've changed spark plugs, and coils, but same thing. 1 and 4 still spark, 2 and 3 still no spark. Anybody have any idea's??

Is your check engine light on? Can you get a scan tool and read the engine codes?

There's no check engine light on. Oh, it's an Evo 9. I used a friends coils from his Evo 8 if that mattered.

Exhaust cam sensor. This just happened to me. I had fuel all over, spark on 2, it would not fire over. Most times it would start a bit, but die pretty much immediately.

Everyone thought it was my ECU as well. Turned out the immobilizer had tripped, and after I fixed that with ECUflash and got fuel/spark back, realized I only had spark on 2 cyl. I tried swapping coil packs, I had an evo 9 and put an evo 8 coil pack in that I bought used, made no difference, still only spark on 2. Swapped exh cam sensor, car fired right up.

I'm still driving around with 1 evo 9 pack and 1 evo 8 pack...

changed out the exhaust cam sensor. But it didn't fix the problem. The motor is running smoother though. But still not firing on 2 and 3. Any more ideas?

I'm not good with electrical stuff but this is what I did. I cranked the car and let it idle. I used a test light and touched the ecu pin for ign coil 1 and 4. The motor sounded like it wanted to shut off. I touched the ecu pin for ign coil 2 and 3. Nothing happen. Does this confirms that the ecu is bad?

problem solved. Had a short in the wire harness. The wire went to the coil for 2 and 3. It's all covered and motor is running good again.

Ecu wasn't the problem.
