yes you will love it on an na car. its not recomended on a forced inducted car. a small amont of fuel gets in the oil and over time it breaks it down its to thin. if your drag racing 24/7 and constantly breaking it down and building it back up your good to go. just my 0.02's

never liked royal purple, a lot of hype for oil, ive always used mobil 1 and loved it, the 3000k thing is a myth, and i think the people that do 2k oil changes do so just so they can say "yeah i change my oil every 2000 miles!" to answer the original question you will be fine going over your limit

Well, lets hop into the service manual and see what the maker says severe service is - the service that requires shorter oil change intervals.

Driving on dusty, rough, muddy or salt-spread roads.
Towing or police, taxi or commercial operation.
Extensive idling and/or low speed operation.
Repeated short-trip operation at freezing temperatures (engine not thoroughly warmed up).
Driving in sandy areas.
More that 50% operation in heavy traffic during hot weather above 90 degrees F.

Yea your more than fine. I like amsoil but im more of a fan or royal purple just personal preff. I usally run 5w-30 royal purple with K&N oil filter. Change every 3000 +/- 500 depending on my driving during that time and the weather condictions.

what if you dont drive the car that often? Mine is a weekend car, i will put 5k miles on it in about 10 months... Should I change the oil every 3 months just from age of it sitting in the pan?

Thanks!

you should be fine most conventional oils tend to sludge up amsoil not so much you sould change it every 6 months or 4500 miles depening your driving condition

Yeah you are good to go. Amsoil likes to throw around the "25k mile" number.

If you're not running in "severe" conditions, anything less than 5k is a waste. The publics been brainwashed by the drive through oil companies. I remember reading my old 928 manual and it said 7500 oil change intervals iirc. Turbo cars definitely need oil change sooner than na cars, but too often is just a waste. But feal free if it makes you feal better.

I've heard good things about AMSoil such as you can run it for a longer period of time. I personally just run 5w-40 mobil 1 syn but if your motor has over 50k miles on it i would consider running thicker. Also just to be safe i usually change my oil every 2500 miles but i guess it also depends on if your car is tracked/ or if you go WOT often.

This should go in the noob section.

Anyway, I don't get why people are so afraid to just follow the owner's manual, at the very least. It says 5,000 mile intervals for regular driving, and 3,750 mile intervals for severe driving, which includes track use (assuming your car isn't meant ONLY for track use). Going beyond either of those numbers, especially with a product like amsoil, should be fine. Going less than 3,000 is pretty much just unnecessarily burning extra money, albeit not a huge amount.

Can anyone here think of a single person they know who has had component failure due to old dirty oil?

Changing at 4-5k miles is not a problem. HOWEVER I would say running synthetic in these cars is a must, as the oil is subjected to higher heat than regular cars from the turbo. And synthetic has fewer viscosity inhibitors (VIs) to break down therefore can withstand high heat for longer before it loses its viscosity range. If you run a non synthetic I would suggest changing at 3000 miles, but thats again on the safe side.

Also running a 0-30 or even 5-30 is stupid, its just for emissions bull****... its thinner when cold so you get a little tiny bit better fuel efficiency until the engine is warmed up. . A 10-30 will protect better when cold, the same when hot, and because the viscosity range is less (30-10=20 vs 30-0=30) that means even FEWER VIs need to be added to the base oil. A 10-30 could theoretically be run for even more miles than a 0-30 or 5-30 before it 'breaks down' .. when discussing oil cleanliness, however, is a different discussion but I think its safe to say modern japanese engines run fairly clean.
