Still don't get it till this day, haha.....wing cost from $2,000-3,500 and it takes pooo poo, where other wings or custom wings cost alott less and functions better than the Voltex. Arghh....yikez! Voltex is just "show" IMO.

The problem was that the wing provided such significant downforce that the trunk lid was unable to support it.

If anyone honestly thinks that wing was making lift before something failed you are a crazy. Sure when something breaks (most likely the trunk lid, stanchion or something else) that would let the wing change it's angle of attack it's probably going to rip off and most likely fly into the air. That would be like thinking this prototype car was making lift the entire time it was on track and not just during a specific set of circumstances involving the aero dynamic wake of the car in front and hill that let air get under the splitter.

If I had to guess I would say it was likely fatigue of the carbon trunk that let it separate which is why like a lot of others have already said the wing supports should have been anchored to or supported by the frame. Fatigue is really hard to spot in a carbon piece and is something they likely wouldn't have been able to see with the naked eye.

they should definitely consider mounting the wing to the frame next time instead of just the trunk.

the title of this post should be changed to "Mount your wing to your chassis and not a thin composite trunk"
it was a varis trunk, which i thought were originally made to be light weight, not necessarily stronger than the steel OEM.. its not the wing's fault that it flew off, it was the trunk's fault for not withstanding the vibrations/constant down force stresses the wing creates on it over all those years... i bet the oem trunk would have held up just fine, even with the dents from the force the wing creates..
