Even if you put in the latest and greatest clutch available, you're just shifting the shock to another area of the drivetrain. AWD + 3260 lbs + 271+ hp can be very hard on any drivetrain. Better to burn a clutch than break a tranny. But this is off topic...
But to answer your question...the door sqweak seems to be the most common problem.

I am an interested buyer just doing my homework before making the buy.

5000 Miles since July. Stock clutch. Had 5th gear syncro replaced under warranty at 4200 miles. No complaints other than that the dealer took 2 weeks to fix it and I had to drive a dealer-rental Cavalier. Nothing will make you miss your Evo more than having to drive a Cavalier for two weeks. Overall I'm very pleased. I mean, I get to drive a race car every day.

6.2K No problems, no warranty work, no rattles. Nothin' but smiles.
The only negative--the recaro seats aren't conducive to sexual exploits. Either that or I am getting older an I am not as agile.

Since April, March build. 14,500 miles - no problems. Driving conditions include autocross, gravel roads, drove from Cali to VA, stop and go, etc. etc. No drag racing, ergo, my clutch is still with us. No squeaks or rattles. No brake fade. Still have 30-40% of stock tread. Lots of mods with no headaches. How could it be better?

(me) Going from a 92' corolla to an Evo is a huge difference. It is superior in every category. I have so much control and stability with this machine, both handling and speed, and find myself taking the long way to and from home often. If people get pissed off at me on the road, they can't do anything about it. It's nice going to places around my town and people already know about 'the red evo,' cuz there's only two Evo's around here; the other yellow one doesn't drive much.
7500 miles, no problems, tires have lots of meat left, stock clutch still feels new.

Purchased March 10, 2003.
13,200 + miles
stock clutch RIP @ 9800 K.
ACT 3100 # upgrade kit is much stronger!
Advans retired @ 11,500 K for Toyo Proxes T1Ss...
No cosmetic issues with the exception of a few tiny pain chips on the hood. Zaino. Other than that... it's still a thrilling ride!!! By far the most fun I've had in a car - period! It's amazing that #1. The car nver seems to get old and #2. The car responds amazingly to mods!

15000+ miles and only problems ive had with my evo is a glased clutch (went easy on it for a few thousand miles and the clutch seems as strong as it was b4 the glasing) and a fifth gear grind that i have to have looked at
just remember that the stock clutch isnt ment to be built to handle the impressive punishment this car can dish out... just as most high performance lower cost cars clutches arnt ment to (S2000, DSM, WRX, Supra, RX7, ect, ect)

Can someone describe the 5th Gear synchro grind?
What is it? How is it detected?
Newbie here... and I don't mean to go off topic. But I don't want to start a thread to have it moved to OFF TOPIC.
Also.... on a side note to assist other newbies, has anyone considered making a LEXICON (dictionary of terms) for this GREAT forum? IF so... it could be "stickied" so that newbies can use it as a reference when going into the GENERAL forum.
People new to the TURBO world have no clue to some of the acronyms that most of you use without a second thought.
Examples (The ones that I been able to figure out with searches);
DSM - Diamond Star Motors
BOV - Blow off valve
FMIC - Front Mounted Intercooler
EGT - Exhaust Gas Temp
WOT - ?
MAF - ?
VTA - Vent to atmosphere.
etc etc
Just a thought.....
Thank you.

WOT = wide open throttle
MAF= Mass airflow sensor
Bought May 16th
14000 miles strong as it could be
Modded without any problems
Stock advans are gone but will be changed in the next few days
Stock clutch is still strong
Nothing bad to report at all!

MAS is Mass-Airflow-Sensor
common mistake to confuse the two.
