cheap belt tensioner tool fail....
Ok while bleeding my lifters i was in the process of trying to seperate the cam gear from the camshaft and the belt allmost had enough play but not quite so i tightened the belt tensioner tool a few more slow turns then i hear the tip snap off. now i have a 2in piece of metal freefloating in a bad place. its the smaller tip on the pic. right where the threads start is where it snapped. my problem is how do i get it out?..
Oh and dont make the same mistake i made buying this pos ebay tool...

I had the same deal with a friend's car. We had a cheap tool and it snapped. We thought we got it all. 3 days later a piece got jammed in a cam gear and the belt jumped. Every intake valve tapped the pistons. Funny thing is, we literally just rebuilt the head.

Do what this person said. The very same thing happened to me when using that cheap tool.
Take everything off to get to the timing belt. It will be a huge hassle, but TRUST me. Do it. You have to be 100 percent sure you get it all.

i just finished doing that all and i have the cover off for the timing belt... and i see absolutely nothing.. and i can see that the tool threads rite behind a pulley and cant see how to get that pulley off. i have the auto tension spring pulley already off. i have a feeling the timing belt tool broke with a few threads holding it in. because all the tension is already off the belt with the rest of the broken tool removed...
what do i take off to get the broken portion removed. any advice??

If you can't find it, I would suggest taking the belt all the way off. Or at least take off the belt tensioner.
All the tool really does is thread itself onto the tensioner pulley, pushing it so the belt tension is loose. Maybe it cracked off and fell back there and got jammed up. It could explain why the tension is so loose at this point.

ok i found the broken piece and it was in the back of the tension pulley. i had to take the belt off... i am installing cams at the same time and breaking this tool kinda screwed up my tdc and belt alignment and i cant quite get the intake cam to rest flush, seems the 2nd cylinder to the rt "i think its called the rocker arm, whatever sits on the lifter" is raised a quarter of a inch higher. do i just turn the crank till it drops in flush? and is their a write up on completely re-doing your timing and cam alignment... i still have my zip ties on the cams but think that is pointless seeing as the rest of the belt is off..

This helped me a lot on my first Evo t-belt. It is A LOT easier with two people. Or if you have a tool like this:

shouldn't the camshaft sit flush with no pressure points on it? according to those diagrams i have everything lined up "crank and oil shaft" but when i have the cam gears aligned with the ticks on the valve cover and the camshafts not even close to sitting in place flush. i put a extension in spark plug 1 far left and confirmed its tdc. what am i doing wrong...
