Ill link you to http://www.sheptrans.com/transcase/index.htm a lot of guys have his upgrades. I think this is a common problem that the t-cases are weak in the evo but dont quote me on that.

its the ring and pinion to be exact...when the power is too high the ring and pinion grind together when in motion until its as smooth as a mushroom top....once you take the nut off the bottom of the oil pan you can see the metal shavings...happened to me a couple summers ago
Def recommend sheptrans...have a sheptrans now, best upgrade for high hp evos to prevent wheel lockout

Most definetily.....I mean...things are gonna break...parts are going to deteriorate...its part of the game....
And me saying the Transfer case can go down isnt meant to deter anyone from high power, just putting info out so that ppl know, cuz i sure didnt.

I just had mines replaced, god I dreaded that noise. It's a very distinct noise called the "evo death whine," and you can look it up on yt to see if you have it.
Just don't launch your car, but eventually modding will catch up to you. Just know you'll need to get it upgraded soon.

The transfer case is the part of the car that contains the ring and pinion in order for awd to work properly. It transfers the power from the front of the car to the rear differential which has the all important job of dividing power between both rear wheels. As you can probably imagine, this part goes through complete hell distributing power all around, and because of this, it is known to break under constant hard launches or bad driving.
It is NOT going to happen if you follow maintenance and drive the car responsibly. In other words, don't launch the car unless you know exactly how.
With 350hp there is no need to have it built, however, if you do decide to have it built i recommend contacting shep trans. A built transfer case is typically used for 400+hp applications, but if you do go this route, you can sleep easy knowing that your transfer case can take a lot more hp than what you have, lowering the chances of it breaking.
