I think the OP probably shares the same feelings as I do...I just think the cops should be out there trying to catch the real bad guys like the rapists and drug dealers, instead of going after us folks who aren't endangering anyone and minding our own business.

Face it, we are going to get profiled in this car. Within the first 5 months of owning the car this happened to me. I got pulled over and the cop made me pop my hood and trunk to look for "illegal" modifications. He accused me of having "nawz" because of my greddy oil catch can. His partner also accused me of having a "stolen" motor swapped in because he didn't believe the stock motor had a red valve cover from the factory and also was wondering why my exhaust manifold looked different (it's corroded like every evo's) from the rest of the car. I even went a step further and opened up all the doors to my car, just because I wanted him to quit bothering me. He had a grin on his face the whole time and enjoyed it. I had no illegal modifications. I ended up getting out with just a ticket for no front license plate, which irritated me.

Some cops are just on a power trip

Luckily I don't have a story that would fit in with the theme of this thread, but the one thing I tell everyone that has problems with the police.... just remember, they are people just like everyone else. There are good ones and bad ones. Think of the people you work with, how many do you despise, how many are chill, how many are straight laced, how many take advantage of everything they can so they can get ahead? Cops are the same, but their testing sifts out most of the bad. Most. There are still going to be exceptions.

Always treat them with respect, and reply to their questions calmly, and don't fight with them. If they are wrong and you know it, fight it in court where you actually have a chance.

Don't forget about those harleys. Some of those are obnoxiously loud but you don't see many tickets.

Up here in Alaska if it goes all the way to the tailpipe and it's not rusted out you're good to go. You'll never get an exhaust ticket here.

since i have the exhaust ive been getting shady looks from cops all the time...SO far, im lucky and none of them stopped to pull me over, but im sure one day it will come..and i try to do lowest rpm when in the city all the time to keep the noise down..

one thing i noticed since i have the exhaust, it makes me drive like a normal person in the city - average speed and no crazy accelerations...trying to law low

btw, exhaust is greddy comp tic without silencer!

<grin> How ironic. Modifying a car is not supposed to make it less fun to drive.

Lol I got and exhaust ticket when I was already in the drive way. I didnt know he could do that. He wasnt a d*** or anything. It was about 2 am. I was driving normal but I have to go up a steep hill the get up to my house. I guess that was enough for him.

sorry to hear about that man.

Yea i was so pissed when i got out of my car because it took so long to find the right one. Luckily south coast was able to pull some strings and get me another one but with about 23,xxx less miles on it and for the same deal as the first one.

What really irritated me was when i went in with my attorney to the police department to give another statement (since they had to do a second police report) and the first thing the cop says to me is "you look familiar." haha that caught me off guard and i had no idea what he was talking about. But, long story short, ended up the cop lives up the street from me an had followed me home many of times and said my exhaust was too loud and it was illegal but never gave me a ticket because (word for word) he "doesnt **** in his own backyard.''

So annoying, i really believe some cops go on a power trip and abuse it.

In PA you pretty much cant tint any of the windows unless its factory tint on a car. SUV's Have different rules. I got ticketed a few years ago an they stated that 80% of light has to pass through. I was also written tickets for the front and back windows seperately. My tint wasnt really even that dark either, it was like 50%

As i own an array of different cars, i notice the stero-type that the Evos/ imports have in general from police.. My 06 Dodge ram is lifted with loud as tires that hum coming down the road. I have 20% tint all the way around and a flowmaster exhaust. I also have a 04 Harley Night train, 96CI motor, with screaming eagle pipes with no baffles. ITS LOUD!!!, and the Evo. My evo is even as far as noise as my dodge. Ive NEVER been pulled over in the truck for the tints or exhaust, or on the bike. In my evo ive been stopped numerous times, and moreso when i had the front windows tinted. They think were all racers, and just have loud exhausts to sound cool, and think were all fast the furious wanna bes. Ive been both the dick to the cop fighting with him, and it gets you no where. They just chock it up to yep, see , told you those import guys are all morons with no respect. and the nice polite respectful guy. I got away numerous times with the front tints with my explaination of the tint holds the class together should it ever shatter, and its a requirement for the Autocross track. Then they usually start shooting the ****, and ask costs to go on the track etc... Just dont be a dick head. But at the same time, you know damn well the tints and exhaust is ILLEGAL. You took that risk by putting it on.

Thats cause most of the cops have Harleys too. Besides as i own a harley, Ive noticed first hand that Loud pipes save lives. But then again, i live in jersey, and 3/4 of the people here cant drive anyway.

Sorry to hear that bro. There is going to be good and bad cops. Cops doing the right thing and cops looking for the power trip. It does suck that we get profiled in these cars and I hate when cops think when we drive imports means we must drag race. C'mon there are same amount of muscle cars doing the same thing. And they are usally LOUDER then our cars. And seriously how can you really fight a ticket in court? Even if you are 100% right because that judge is assigned to that court room he already knows the cops that walk in and out of that court/police station. How can you really win? Odds already are against you in a way. Yea go pay for a lawyer but that cost money. Why pay for a lawyer when you are right? I get disgusted when I hear stories of bad profiling cops. That's not "serving and protecting the community." And the reason I know this stuff is because I have been in and out of the court room so many times for tickets license supension/revokes it's not even funny. So I have seen and heard a lot of things.
