speedometer is off

I searched, but could only find a little info with no solutions. So, does anyone know how to adjust the speedometer? I installed a second set of Trustz overlays (one of my first overlay gauges went out) and now my speedo is off about 10mph. Needle doesn't start to move, until hitting about 20mph. Checked the needle and it is free moving and doesn't get caught on the overlay. Stock wheels and stock gearing. 06 IX
Thnx!

This is exactly the reason why you shouldn't install overlays on gauges. There is no real way to fix it besides resetting the needle to where it should be and even then you can still be off because there is no way to tell where it was to begin with.

The overlays work great and first install almost a year ago had no problems. I matched the two speedo overlays and the mph readings are in the same positions. The mph is still off without the overlay. How do I reset the needle? I have access to getting speed calibration done, just need to know how to adjust the needle.
Thnx!!!

Yes unless the spring has lost tension. Then it will never be right.

I fixed mine by getting a device that tells me how fast im going using the obd2 port and driving until the needle should be straight. For me it was 70 mph...i think its 85 for you evo guys. I have to go back out to my car and see what it is for you guys. Its close to that if you use the trutz gauges. Never remove the needle when installing overlays. Just bend them upward so you can slide the overlay right under the needle.

Thanks for the info. I didn't remove the needle to install the overlays though, but the needle stop did pop out of the hole when removing the bad overlay so that might have caused the needle to be out of place.

I don't really understand this but I have a simular issue, when I put my snow tires it's off by 5 mph. They're stock size but but be a tad smaller or something

yeah sounds like it. also if it gets a little drag it can cause the speedo to be off as well. I heard that you can take it to the dealership and they can recalibrate it. I have never done it but i cant see why its not possible.

I did this with a friend so if you do buy this device dont calibrate alone.

I took the plastic cover off the gauge cluster so I can pull out the needles at my pleasing.

Anyway these pics are a bit blurry but I hope you understand what I did just with the pics.

this one is mph..

Yes this is an evo cluster.

This one is rpms

I have cruise control so my foot wouldnt adjust the speeds while I was doing this. But find a set speed for the speedometer such as 70 and when the ipod/iphone says your doing 70 you put your cruise control on and adjust the needle by taking it out and putting it back in.

Same with rpm. Have it set to like 3000 rpms in 4th or 5th gear for complete accuracy and put on cruise control and adjust. Go by the device and not cluster of course. Do it with a friend so he/she can take control of the wheel too while you fiddle with the needle.

THIS IS NOT SAFE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.

As for your issue with the winter tires. I have only 1 thought but I'm sure you are not dumb in any way shape or form. But my thought is your tires are under inflated is all. That's the only thing I could think of. But Im sure you made sure they are inflated all the way so that tosses my idea out the window.
