Buying used Evo IX things to look for
About to test drive and possibly buy a used EvoIX. I just like them better style wise than the Evo X's. What are some things to look out for as far as things that would keep you from buying one?
I pulled the carfax, everything looks good except for a minor collision that didn't even pop the air bags. That to me is already something that makes me not want to buy it, but I'll at least look at it.
Anything else I should look out for? BTW its a 2006 MR with 45000.

A lazy F*ck, thats actually a good thing sometimes. You type in th search seciton "buying used...." and see what comes up. A bunch of useless info that I don't feel like sifting through.
I'm hoping if I wait long enough I'll get someone who can answer my questions instead of being a forum troll throwing insults at people asking questions.

i would say obviously drive it around , feel for the clutch and listen for any noises that sound off although evos have a loud engine bay, check out over al look of car, interior and car fax and history of it basically anything you would do for any other car ohh and Tranny death whine

Ok cool thanks. Sounds like the normal look over then. I just bought a FJ cruiser and there were several things that I was advised to look for that were not something just anyone might look for. I always want to check to see if there is anything that a non-evo owner would know to look for.
Thanks

well i mean if you look at the engine bay you can almsot tell if the car was grage kept or kept out side by build up of carbon on like say the intake mani.. if that means anything to ya.. also i would ask if its still stock clutch, any mods? i could give you advice but idk what the spec are on the evo your buying maybe a little more info may help

Its in my post, its a used 2006 IX MR. When buying from a dealership, I'm always expecting the salemens to lie to me about mods and such. The info you provided is very helpful. You mentioned tranny whine, any certain amount? Or just any whine at all.

go on youtube and type in like evo death whine or tranny whine should give you an idea, also your gonna have to search the forums if you wanna know more info about it but basically its like a annoying whine which means the trannys on its way out, also when you do test drive it open it up and make sure it holds boost and what not, i see threads with people saying just purchased evo wouldnt boost over 10 psi and i go did you not drive it?? whats the mailage and price there asking for? did you get a car fax yet?

Haven't driven it yet, I'm suppose to tomorrow. they're asking 23K for it, it has 45k miles. Car fax came back clean except for a collision that didn't even pop the air bags. I'm guessing the bumper got replaced.

dealers sucks to deal with in general they want the sale if they have to lie to get it they will. So you are doing the right thing by researching before walking into a store full of lies The whine is very noticeable like he said just look it up on youtube.

you are getting raped dont bother going nack to that dealer, there is a lot of evos on this forum being sold for a lot less with lower miles, **** for 23k you can get an evo x with 40k miles...find an evo you like, go to your local bank or credit union ask for a loan and buy private. Do you know someone that has an evo??? If so tell them you would buy them lunch or a hooker for a night if they came to look at the car.
Things to look for are a lot, abviously the car has been hit, a big no no when buying a performance car. Make sure the tranny shift smooth because the 6spds tend to suck and go bad if abused, listen for transfer case whinning (one of the guys previously told you to check youtube, do that), check radiator fins, if bent or damaged then the car has been messed with ( at lest the turbo has been changed), check and make sure there is no bown shocks, no any crazy lifter ticking ( even though 4g63 likes doing that on its own), no crazy idleing ( then there is prolly cams in it), no oil leaks or spots in places where its not supposed to be, check the bolts in general make sure they seem like they have never been removed ( when a bolt is removed there is some stripping on it or some kind of mark from the socket/wrench)...
since you said you could not find any help here:https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...oking-evo.html
