Storing the EVO..for a LONG time.
i have to move this winter....to alaska.
i aint taking the evo. ill be up there for a minimum of 2 years with a guaranteed stop in afghanistan for a year.
options are to take her with me and store locally....but -70 degrees seems bad for the car, or store her in my folks garage in GA.
what things should i do for such long term storage?
this is what i know already...change all fluids prior to storage
top off gas tank and use stabil
dont use jack stands to prevent suspension sagging
bag intakes and such to keep pests out
use a cover for indoor storage
keep windows cracked
place a small amount of charcoal in the car to prevent smells
remove the battery
what other suggestions are there? the car will not be started at all in the 2 years im gone.
dont say "ill take care of it for you." you wont.

This is what I keep my "toy" car in over the winters here in Ohio. While its only about 6 months that its stored... it comes out looking just how it did when I put it in there. Buy some of the extra moisture packs and have your parents or someone change them every 6 months or so. I put one on each corner of the car and one inside. I also kept the windows cracked about 2".
I also agree about the junk wheel/tire setup. I used to store my Evo on 4 donuts.
Thank you for serving our country! Be safe!

Don't do that car bag crap, it will act as a green house regardless of temp. Anything sitting that long for that matter. Those bags are good for 6mo that's is all.
As far as stabil in the gas, another negative there captain. Stabil works against you for anything longer than 8 months. Then kiss your injectors, pump and filter good bye upon your arrival start.
Tires as mentioned.... The cheaper the better
I'd take a ride and stir it in a warmer climate, better yet give it to a relative you can trust to give it a cruise every month.

Personally, Id just sell it and buy another when I got back. Its not like its so exotic and rare that you cant find another one. Plus the car will continue to depreciate while its not even being used.
No worries about it getting scratched, seals drying up, oil turning to crud, gas turning to water, etc.

Dude, thats honestly more than you really need to do. I just pulled my car out of my garage after 17 months. Granted this is not 24 months, but it was stored at normal garage temps during all seasons and I live in Michigan. The tires were perfectly fine with no flat. The gas was good too, 93. You dont need to crack the windows, bugs and dust will get in there big time.
I do agree with putting something in the car as way to absorb odor and moisture. You dont have to change your fluids prior to storage. Change them afterwards, its a waste of good fluids. I also agree with disconnecting the battery, or it ends up dead.
