MAF honeycomb question

so I was riding the other day and all of a sudden the car started to mis-fire, come to find out my honeycomb inside the MAF collapsed and turned sideways. It did not go anywhere except sideways.

I took the honey comb out and the car runs fine, AFS look a little rich. Is there a danger to running without the honeycomb part of the MAF?

A good amount of people run without the honeycomb on the MAF, just make sure that there wasn't any damage done to the sensor. That could cause strange changes in your AFR that could result in damages.

I was always wondering about that. In LSX cars one of the firts things we do is remove the screen on the MAFs.

My set-up has mangled two honeycombs...taking them out it will not run right but I've been fully tuned with it as is. Some say it works, some say it doesn't. Me personally...it doesn't.

2g DSM guys run without the maf honeycombs all the time, the only downfall (or benefit in some cases) is that your car will run rich(er).

The screens - or honeycombs - are there to straighten out the airflow. Some MAF installations are in critical need fo airflow straighteners and some are not. The dynamic range and linearity of the MAF readings can be seriously affected by removing it.

YMMV.
