Just recently, my cooling fan stays on after i turn off the car, even if i drive less than a mile. It stays on for a few seconds and it just shuts off on its own. It has never done this before and i only have 34000 miles on it. does anyone have any ideas why its doing this?

 

its normal sometimes fan will still cycle if it senses the car is stilll warm or is still hot

 

Not on an Evo it's not. Only way for fan to stay on is if you have the key in the ON position or running. Or possibly an electrical problem. Sounds like it could possibly being the fan control module going bad and making contact when its not supposed to. Getting to the bottom of this could be pretty in depth.

 

The fan should not run even if the key is in the ON position. If it does, then you have a bad fan control module (is a common issue on evos 03-04) just find a used one on ebay or get a new one from the dealer (expensive).

There was a recall awhile back on certain models for the fan controller. My 03 was part of the recall. I had it done even though I never had a problem with mine. Call a dealer and see if yours is part of the recall. Maybe you can get it fixed for free.

Your fan controller is dead. time to change it.

 

It's exactly what everyone is saying it is (the fan control module). I just had mine replaced two days ago, and everything is back to normal now. It's safe for now, but sooner or later, the fan will be on all the time (even on cold starts). Before you know it, the fan control will be dead and you'll be on the side of the road with an overheated car. Part # #1355A052

 

I can assure you 100% the car will not over heat with the inner fan not working. I haven't run one in my car in 2+ years. Many many on here do not either

Cars seen dead of summer 100 degree heat bumper to bumper traffic heading down the shore countless times. Even logged temps and never seen them over like 190

 

I can also assure you that if I run with out the inner fan I see 200+temps. Every car is different, type of coolant used, coolant ratio, horsepower, etc.

 

With your fan running all the time, your alternator is strained. Also when travelling upwards of 50MPH the fans actually block incoming air, increasing temps slightly.

Yes lots of people run with the ans on all the time, but why risk it???
