evo comfort

Hi, i'm new on this forum and wanted to ask a question. I test drove an STi and after driving I sat on the back and let my friend test drive it. While I was at the back, i was bouncing all over the place. Very stiff.

I am going to test drive an Evo, and when I do... would it be as stiff as the STi? I want a car that I can use for an everyday commute, and with a speed of an Evo. What do you guys think?

Have you guys taken long commutes with the Evo? If so how was the ride? Thanks for your time.

I drove 900+ miles/day when I drove from CA to VA - no problems other than my elbow being sore since there's no padding on the door armrest. When I commuted everyday in L.A. (80-mile round trip), it wasn't an issue. Everyone is different, so it's hard to gauge what's acceptable for comfort or not. I think the stock suspension's fine, esp. compared to my S2000.

if you think the STI was too stiff and harsh than the EVO is not for you. go take a ride in a G35 coupe, i think you will find it much better as a daily driver.

When you drive the evo then you'll know what a race car feels like. The STI is more the daily driver, and the Evo is more for track. I love the Evo and its not that bad as a daily driver unless you drive where there is a lot of bumps and pot holes then it gets annoying. Seems like your looking more for a luxory car not a street legal track/race car. I drove on long trips and had no problem... I actually found it comfortable driving long distances. Highway crusing is so much fun and so smooth on smooth highways.

I dont understand, some people go looking to buy these amazing cars but forget to remember they are race cars. It is stiff for a reason. Take the Evo over a hump in the road, It will hug the road like a rollercoster, not bottoming out and bouncing around. Comfort= luxory

I love the harsh ride, Id take it any day of the year. I know everything thats happening under my car. Im in Los Angeles where caltrans are lazy bastards and the potholes could swallow small children.

I love the ride, only thing I don't like about the EVO interior is not having a telescoping stearing column. I like to recline my seat a little (no, not looking out the back side windows like a "gagsta") and if I am close enough to hold the wheel like normal, I am too close to the pedals.

I wonder if it would be possible to get a spacer for the stearing wheel to move it closer to the driver?

To paraphrase Car and Driver's review of the Carrera GT, men who drive the evo will discover that they have breasts as the car shakes over imperfections in the road. Actually I don't think it's so bad but people have different threshholds of comfort. I found the STi to have a softer ride but it also felt less stable, so maybe the Evo will be more to your liking.

I went for a 200 + mile drive up to MA from NY last week and it was in a way pure hell for me.. Due to the lack of cruise control my leg was to say the least, ****ing killing me... I had to stop on the way up after about 90 miles to walk off the cramp and on the way home I tried to do it with no stops but in the end had to when I got caught in 2 1/2 hours of Thanksgiving rush traffic.. Man was pissed about that.. I went 170 miles doing 85 mph + and then the last 30 miles took me nearly the same time it took me to go the 170 miles... I was just a LITTLE pissed sitting in that traffic... ;-)

I'm gonna try out my commute (80miles round trip) to Los Angeles tomorrow in my new EVO and I'll report back my JOY or grief.
The ride IS stiff though.... its worse when you drive on @#$@ed-up roads.

Ok... MEEH..

To follow up on my earlier post....

I think you are in So CAL.... ??
I drove 45 miles (1st time new evo) to Los Angeles up the 5FWY this morning during rush hour traffic.

Shifting in and out of gears no issue in traffic. The ride was ROUGH. Though I can deal with the ride... but it is DEFINITELY stiff and you feel every imperfection in the road. (Imperfections in the roads are the NORM in So Cal)

In addition, I drove the 405 fwy on the way home from the dealership and it was the same... rough and takes getting used to. Again.. It is a sports tuned suspension built for performance... it will NOT ride like a Honda, Toyota.

It turns like a GO KART (I mean this LITERALLY) and it rides like a GO KART. But its more fun than ANYTHING.

The STi is much stiffer than the evo. You just dont feel it as much in the STi because the seats are padded so much. Whenever you hit bumps in the STi the noise is very punishing. Its impossible for a passenger to fall asleep in the STi because of all the bouncing.

I would take the ride of the Evo any day before the STi
