evo 9 crank senor

Does the crank senor control when cylinders fire?would a bad sensor explain only cyl 1 firing?

No, it does not control. It reads the position of the crank in rotation, so the system knows when to spark to create combustion. A bad sensor wont really explain only 1 cylinder firing, you need to check your timing.
